Oct. 30, 2007 - My pumpkins

Well, the weather has turned frosty at night and in the mornings so we shall see if my pumpkins finish. They are little ones anyways and I am not sure how to tell when the white ones are ready to come off the vine?  The others are sugar pumpkins and I was hoping to bake them up for pies etc.

White (Casper) pumpkin

The leaves close in look really terrible. So hopefully they hang  in there long enough for the sugar pumpkins to turn orange. Any advice?

Oct. 30, 2007 - Coincidence?

Posted by kjoyr814

How funny. Today we were surveying the remains of our first pumpkin patch. Ours came in real early (can we say JULY?!) and then got a second wind, so to speak, in late September. We have one big one that is just starting to turn orange and several white ones left. My son (the Red One) asked, "how do we know when they are ripe?". I replied, "don't know...I guess we will just pick them when we think they are ripe and do some research for next season".

Real scientific and real helpful, I know! :-)

Nice blog btw.
