Library

I’m sitting at the library waiting on Jr. to finish with his merit badge class. We had a break in our normal routine, came up to my wife’s parents so that Jr. could participate in the class that was being held up here with the parks department. It has been nice, especially for him, having a chance to continue to grow in his independence and it hasn’t been bad for me, I don’t know the last time I had a day to myself. Don’t know if I’ve made the best use of it. But we will head for home in the morning. We have also had some good quality time, with out errand or chore to be done. I’m going to have to pray about our trip home, I’ve got to tell him about not being accepted into OA (order of the arrow, prep him for summer camp), but the Lord’s is graceful and has offered us an opportunity to tie the discussion into his character and relate it to our recent discussion on how we should treat others, despite the frustration that they may cause us or that we may be feeling. I’m hoping that he will receive our discussion in a mature manner, but he is young and it’s hard to keep those newly emerging hormones in check. I think I’ll head out into the heat and see what I can find - sure would like to find my bride a gift for when we return home. -TeachingDad

Maybe it's time to Share

I must admit I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, but I do feel I have a lot to share from my years as a At-Home-Homeschooling Dad. I am now into my ninth year. So this with be the start or rather a re-start of telling of our adventure and misadventures as a family who it different, but different in a way that works.

I'm the man who stays home while my bride works very hard to support us with the financial means we need to survive. But just like the mom's who are home I have taken on the roles that have been traditionally held by a woman. I wouldn't fool myself and say I'm the first of my kind or that no one does it like me, but to be honest I don't know of any like me. I've run into others, who are "At-Home-Dads", but for the most part they don't clean the bathrooms (my least favorite chore), they have a maid or still haven't really committed to being at home.

This is the start of an idea - one that I am still struggling to put together. I would like to share my experiences with other dad's and moms. To inspire men and women, even if they are the "bread winner" to get more involved in their families. To think about what give up something might gain them.

I'll have to see how it develops - TeachingDad
