I Love Dr. Rao!
Jerry saw Dr. Rao on Monday, his psychiatrist who manages his medications. He bumped him up .5 mgs. on the Risperdal. We had noticed a clear change in Jeremiah's behavior as the time neared that he was to take his next dose. Dr. Rao increased the medication so that each dose will now last until he is to take his next one. That will keep Jeremiah from struggling with emotional outbursts and meltdowns as the medication wears off. It will increase our family peace as well. We knew it was time for an increase when the kids started prompting us, "Mom, dad...Jerry needs a pill!!"
I also told Dr. Rao about our appointment with Children's Medical Services last week. He was appalled and angry and agreed that we should not go back. He told us he wished more parents home schooled their children and that God would be glorified in our parenting of Jeremiah and through Jeremiah personally. We're by far perfect parents, but it felt good just the same to hear a medical professional reaffirm what we were doing with Jerry.
He was shocked that the psychologist at CMS doubted Jeremiah's diagnosis and could not believe that they were trying to put him in a box. Dr. Rao confirmed that not all Asperger's children are the same. Not all have the high intellect and excellent speech and advanced vocabulary. Jeremiah fits Asperger's to a tee, socially speaking and Dr. Rao encouraged us to go through home school channels to have him tested for other learning delays. |
