This week was back to school full-time for all of us and I think Jeremiah was glad to have the company of his brothers and sister at the dining room table.
We started our creation unit study this week and he has had a lot of fun with it so far. We read the story of creation, put sequencing cards in order and talked about what God created on each of the first six days, re-told the story on his felt board, and made a creation mobile. Jerry also made a paper plate Mosaic as we talked about plants and their seeds and what foods plants give us thanks to God creating them on day three. I sprayed the finished plate with clear spray paint then to keep the bugs away from it, but it didn't do much for fending off Louis the cat, who attempted to eat the cereal off the plate, glue and all!

Jerry also got back to work in his Great Big Book of Everything. Yes, it's just like Stanley's from Playhouse Disney. Kim made it for him for his 5th birthday, but trying to figure out what each critter started with and cutting the pictures out of the magazines usually ended up frustrating him more than entertaining him. Not now though. He loves it! He said it was his favorite. We added some creation coloring pages to the front of the book and we write the number of the day God created each entry at the top of its page. He's finding the letters much more easily now and loves finding and cutting out the pictures too.

We ended the week by matching picture of God's creations and with Jeremiah molding his own Play Doh creations while we discussed how God didn't have to use His hands at all to make everything He made. He just had to say it and it was done! Jerry thought this was pretty amazing.
We did have one scare this week. Miss Ramos called to say that Jeremiah was no longer on her speech roster, but had been transferred to James Elementary. James is our zoned school according to where we live, but I was told after Jerry's IEP was complete that I could take him wherever I wanted to for speech. I chose Riverhills Elementary because of the playground option next door for the other kids while Jerry was in class.
Jerry has come so far with Miss Ramos and he loves all of his friends in his class of other home schoolers (3 in all). I was quite upset to say the least. I called James Elementary and left several messages for the new speech therapist there. Then I called Riverhills again and spoke with their special education teacher. She got back to me a while later with the good news that Jeremiah could continue to go there for speech, but we would have to submit new paperwork on his first day back.
No problem! It really would've set Jeremiah back to have to get used to a new teacher and, at James, he would've had his speech in an actual classroom with all of the other ESE children. It would have been overwhelming for him to have new children all around him and to be in such an intimidating environment. I'm glad it all worked out...though I'm still waiting for Miss Ramos to call and let me know what Jerry's new schedule will be this year. And praying she had not already sent Jeremiah's work folder to the new therapist at James.
