Teaching Jeremiah, A Journey into the Mind of an Asperger's Child

Keepin' On Keepin' On

It was a pretty good week.  We struggled some with temper tantrums and attitude problems, but I think they're mostly related to getting up so early for speech class three times a week.  We'll work on an earlier bedtime next week.  With the medicine, Jerry seems to require about 12 solid hours to have a "good mood day".

Overall, school went well this week.  We're winding down on Creation and should finish up with it by next week.  This week we began charting what the moon looks like on different nights.  We also made a chart of the different types of dry land there are (shell, dirt, sand, grass).  We also made a grass head guy with an old stocking, some cotton, and grass seeds.  Once he starts growing, Jerry can give him haircuts.  That should be fun.

Today we tested which objects will float in salt water and which in fresh water.  We talked about how God made them both for us to enjoy and made a neat little graph to record our results in.

To Float or Not to Float

With "Swaptember" here and being able to use our MOSI pass at the zoo and aquarium, it fit in nicely with our unit study.  We went to the zoo this week and talked about all the different animals God made.

Jerry also made a sky picture, complete with stars, the sun, planets, and space dust (glitter).

We're trying to do something related to our unit study everyday in addition to our regular handwriting practice, preschool skills workbook, and math.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  It just depends on how much time Jeremiah is willing to sit and how many times a day!  It sure is nice on those days when he'll sit for a full thirty minutes at one shot!

Most boys struggle with sitting. Mine used to treat a carpet square like a mini-trampoline.
