Ok, I know it sounds crazy, but yes, it was necessary. Jerry has been demanding a little more independence in the way of being able to go outside and play with his brothers and sister in the front yard. We usually are out there with them all, but one day I came in to use the restroom. When I went back out, Jerry was gone. We freaked, of course, and started yelling and running frantically looking for him. We finally found him a few apartment buildings down in one of the hallways. I said, "Jerry, you can't just run off like that! You need to stay right in front of our house! You scared us!" His response? "But mommy, the boy had a puppy." He followed an older boy and his dog right down the sidewalk to their apartment!
A few days later, I saw a commercial for Duracell batteries and the BrickHouse Locator with Distance Alert.

In a nutshell, Jerry wears a remote tag on his belt buckle and we have the handheld remote that vibrates and beeps if he wanders more than we have ok'd him to. The tag Jerry wears is durable and small and also has a panic button he can press to call us if he gets scared or can't see us. We tested it out at a fall festival the other night and it worked beautifully. The locater came with four tags altogether so we could program one for each of the other kids for trips to Disney and such. We are very pleased with the locator and, though it cannot replace us watching him at all times, does give us a peace of mind when the eyes in the backs of our heads are not functioning properly! |
