Feb. 22, 2006 -
Feb. 20, 2006 - ok so no schooling in a while
I have been sick and what not. I have
been sick a lot. weird respitory stuff. So I try to
take it easy and nip it in the bud when it starts coming on because I
don't want to miss work.
So I have been reading. And intend to read to my kids. Come
on, i need to do that even if i am not homeschooling right. . . . SO
tonight we will pick up on the Silver Chair. we stopped this
summer. just lost steam . . .
Me? Ihave been reading Charlotte Mason stuff. I do love her
so . . . I have been convicted of my need to be a better
homemaker. how can my children grow and learn in this
chaos?
hence my purge of books.

Feb. 3, 2006 - to the Anonymous comment question
we started with Kumon stuff. thier letter workbooks
and have moved onto rhyming words. These are such nice workbooks.
Y ou can get them at barnes nd Nobles but it lokos like Amazon has a
better selection.
At the same time we used Explode the Code Primers and now she is about half way through book one.
We also do Starfall on the computer as well as thier print off sheets. You can order thier stuff for so cheap.
It all works together really nicely. For books she is reading Bob Books
it sounds like a lot but as you can see consistancy isn't my
strong point. if we had been going mor consistantl;y she would
have been reading early fall. Shame on me.
Fortunatey she is pushy.

Dec. 7, 2005 - Oh look how sad
It has been a month since I did an entry. i wish I could say we were diligently plugging away but we are not.
Well with the exception of the last 4 dayas. weh ave done
everything for 4 days in a row. I have ben working so much
though. I need to get some stuff up on e-bay. I need to get
moving. But my computer is doing something weird relating to
pictures. . .
Ok so,
we have been dilengtly doing math, handwriting and spelling with
madeline. She needs to practice piano desperately. We
busted out her sewing maching the other day. She was
stoked. after Christmas i am goingot have her start a quilt.
Lily is reading!!!! how exciting is that. She has a long
way to go to even steady decoding but she is slowly growing. She
is also kicking butt at math. She is doing handwriting. I
just don't care enough about handwriting. her is atrocious as
well as her sisters.
Ava is sounding out words along with Lily. I shoudl make more
effor to actualy include her. She might pick up reading opretty
quickly this way.
I shall update more frequently. . . . i shall update mroe frequently . . . . I shall update more frequently . . . .

Nov. 4, 2005 - another good week
we did pretty good this week. we are
taking today off because I went to bed feeling liek crap and woke up
feeling worse. some weirdness in my shoulder which made it
impossible to move my arm, hands and shoulder. It dissapeared as
mysteriously as it appeared. My head and neck still hurt but I
think I must have slept funny on it.
So last week in school.
madleline did math every day and spelling most days. She knew her memory verse.
Lilyka started new math. the book is supposed ot last us 36
weeks. doubtful. she did the first 4 weeks in 2 days. this
is one slow program. We have also been reviewing letters and
working on fine motor/writing skills.
Me? I have discovered Charlotte Mason. How have I never
looked into thi?. it is so me. I love her. she is
brilliant. and yet it is all such common sense. I am really
excited about the direction our education, or rather our lives, are
taking.
blessings,
S.

went to a coral (sp) concert that was in russian (thanks
grandma). We went to a friends house and did some investigative
work and discovered the problem with herplants was deer (because of the
height of the damage and the enourmous pile of deer poo) Huh,
maybe we did more than I thought.
today they watched hours of cartoons (that swear they are educational) and are outside playing. hey, its saturday.
and soemone read this blog. exciting.

Sep. 29, 2005 - I guess I don't need to point out
That this makes four days in a row.
Madeline:
Math - did her two pages. more practice with borrowing and
carrying. she transitiond from spell it out notation for ex. 5
(10) + 5 = 55 to just plain 55. So still plugging away.
handwriting/Bible - did her daily lesson and whined about it. also practiced a verse for wednesday night stuff.
spelling did two lessons. and whined about it.
Lilyka
did 4 pages in explode the code. did them madeline. that was nice.
did a page of leters and we played a game to review the sounds.
we went to the library today and checked out a bunch of books. we rode the bus. what a nightmare.
and I still have a raging headache

Sep. 28, 2005 - 3 days in a row baby
Seriously I think doing this blog is shaming me into getting my act together. nothing like a good old fashioned shaming.
Madeline:
Math - did a page of borrowing
and carrying practice. we bought her 3rd grade books last night.
She should move through these pretty fast too. Its hard to know
exactly where she is in math since miquon goes in such a differnt
order. it makes switching over difficult. Oh and today was
painful. She was way distracted.
Spelling - did lessons one and
two for unit 2. come on its a 1st grade speller. I'm not
pushing. she ought to know all this by now. but again we
didn't use a cirriculum for this so now we are sowing the seeds of
disoganization.
Piano - practiced for some
time. did whole lesson. we played together. She
taught me some stuff. it was fun. The program she is using
doesn't move very fast by way of preformance skills but it focuses on
reading mucis which is nice. that is a skill I never even came close to
mastering. She already knows many of the codes and symbols as
well as doing a pretty good job of sight reading. Out of six kids
her age taking lesons only one is using a different program and tehy
all have different teachers. that is reassuring. The one
girl plays better but I don't think she can read music.
Everything is memorized.
Computer - haven't done it yet
but she wil play the geographty game again for a while. weh ave
decided to spend teh whole week on one CD Rom and then switch to
another one.
Bible/Handwriting-
Started unit 3 in her cursive book (each unit takes a week when done
regularly, each lesson is fairly short. althoguh like everything
today she managed to make it painfully drawn out.
Lilyka -
Lilyka did a page of numbers and finished her number recognition
book. yay Lik! So that was number 1-30. I think the
next one is 1-120. kinda a jump.
She did some in her explode the code book. we bought the new book
last night. This afternon madeline insiste we already had that
book. she was right. she cold have said something last
night. oh well. I wonder if the 1/2 books are really
nessecary. probably wouldn't hurt.
She also did some other phonics/letter recognition stuff.
on the computer she id a jumpstart CD and worked on counting and
patterns. She is realy beyond that CD but our hard drive keeps
crashing and she just wants to finish LOL
Ava- made pest of herself. aahhhh, teh anti-helper lives.
tonight the bigs are going to church while Ava and I run some
errends. Madelienw ill be in Chior this year and I am not sure
hat tehy do for wednesday night programs but it is only an hour.
yeehaw!
in the mean time I have been washing and bundeling herbs for our neighbors and drying some more for friends and for me.

Sep. 27, 2005 - dun dudda dun
Sep. 26, 2005 - today
And so our journey of record keeping begins. by searching for the right font just a minute almost got it not just yetgetting closer that was not it ansd neither is this whats this one. pretty much the same as all the others are we back where we bagan . . yes we are . . . ahem, OK lets begin class . . . . Madeline: math
- three pages. she is currently in level 2 of making math
meaningful. We had to make a switch as miquon was not clicking
with her brain waves and required far too many of mine. So today
she did practice with borrowing and carrying. I think we will be
doing more tomarrow and more the next day and more the next day . . . .
. Spelling:
took her first spelling test. missed two out of twenty. not too
shabby. for first grade spelling. actuyally one she just
forgot to finish writing.
(wow, ten gazzion smilies and no eye roll. that is
unfortunate). So now that we are getting serious about this
homeschool biz we should cruise through that spelling book. it is
below her level but I wanted her to have a strong foundation. She
bombed speling on her standardized test. we have been overlooking
it. oops handwriting/Bible
- yes they actually are together. SO she finished up the second
unit. I need to make her memorize the verses. maybe we
won't move on until she memorizes it. Computer - did a geography game and updated her xanga site Piano - practiced for about 10 minutes. Not going to turn her into a musician but it was a good exercise in disipline. Lilyka -
today silly lily did some of her explode the code book. some
other letter recognition and sound connection stuff. She erad
from jen the Henn and Pat the Cat. I htink once she can remember
the letter sounds she is absolutely going to blast off. Tomarrow
we need to just start reviewing and reviewing leter sounds until she
has it. I am very negligent in this sort of creative playful
learning.
So then we sat and read about 5 books and then she listened to a couple
on tape. Computer time was spent playing a phonics
game. I need to find some more things for that girl to do on the
computer. sounds like a good idea for papa for christmas. Ava :made
a lot of noise an distractions. played with trains and finger
puppets. read books with us, played with her leap pad and
listened to books on tape. I htink the books on tape are an
excellent thing for her to do while the otehrs are studying. We
use headphones. (I like this guy) Me:
i started this thing. And while madeline was wading through math
I finished sewing the cusions for our window seat. they don't
even come close to fitting but they hide the ugly wood. Nest is the
book shelf curtains. To hide all teh alluring books from
visiting children and the baby. I know, why would I hide
boks. i honestly don't care if they read one but they pull every
singel one off the shelf and since we moved our school stuf finto half
of the playroom I certainly don't want them messing with my
system. off to tuck in munchkins and read a god book. or do some
laundry and dishes. or something.
