Her red hair is short and curly so her mom puts barrettes in her hair to hold it out of her face. Joy hates her hair back because it makes her hair stick out and kids make fun of her. She likes to draw and paint. She hates bullies because they pick on her best friend McKenna who is only seven. She tries to protect McKenna and she tattles to the teaher and sometimes tells lies about the bullies to get them in trouble.  Joy tries very hard in school but she doesn't think she is very smart. She gets into trouble a lot because she talks so much. She is a kind girl that tries hard to think of others and she loves her family very much.

There once was a girl named Alice. She had brown hair. One day she woke up droopy eyed and yawning. She stretched out her arms and rubbed her eyes to get the sleepies out. She went downstairs to get breakfast because her stomach was rumbling. She found that no one was there. She went to the living room and turned on the light. Her family was all there. They all jumped out and said surprise! Happy birthday!  She opened her presents. She got a new tan coat and bonnet. She had a big smile on her face and she gae her mom a bear hug and said thank you. Her mom told her she had another surprise for her, she was going to take her to town to her favorite ice cream shop.

Later in town Alice had on her new coat and bonnet and they went to the ice cream shop. Her mother bought her a large crunchy pink ice cream bar. Alice thanked her mom. Then they went outside and ate their ice cream as they walked down the sidewalk.

Jan. 18, 2008 - Lesson 7-A test

You did a great job on this test, Miranda. I'm impressed, since you are only 8 years old. Very well done, indeed. You know the 5 elements and can pick them out of a story. Good.

Your character sketch is well-done, and it makes me want to read about Joy! You should think up a story for Joy. :-)

You didn't have to go to all the work of writing a story for the picture--just a vivid description of what was there would have worked for me. But the extras of turning the picture into a story is an added bonus.
Nice work!
