How to catch and hive a swarm....
We started out with one hive this spring, then we were blessed with being able to capture a natural swarm, enabling us to start our beekeeping venture with the two hives that we had wanted to begin with. The clip below is a quick intro to catching a swarm and hiving it. We are hoping to have a more informational documentary on the beekeepers year available in 2008.
Incidently, the local swarm that we caught was the hive that survived, our $80.00 imported (from Alabama) swarm died out, probably due to the queen dying and the workers not producing another queen quick enough (and we didn't notice so we couldn't requeen... Amateurs! LOL  ).
Keeping bees has been an informational and fun learning expereince. We are hoping to continue and expand! We encourage all who are interested to try your hand at it, even if you live in the city! Many beekeepers live in the city! ;)
