Here Up North

 Here Up North

~ Neil Harding McAlister ~

Here up north the air is cleaner.
Autumn wind blows cold and clear,
Making all the senses keener
As the waning days grow leaner,
And long winter nights draw near.

Here the moon is always bigger.
With rare beauty she’s endowed,
Cutting a majestic figure;
Sailing on, with grace and vigor,
Through the shoals of scudding cloud.

Here up north the magic’s stronger.
In the sky the Northern Lights
Glow in phosphorescent wonder.
Awesome spectacles they conjure,
Moving, dancing in the night.

Here up north the Spring’s more urgent;
Life explodes with pent-up might:
All the forms of life divergent,
Birds returning, flowers resurgent,
With the coming of the light.

Here the evenings last much longer
When the summertime has come.
Day by day the light grows stronger.
On the tundra, great herds wander,
Guided by the midnight sun.

Here up north the lines are sharper.
                    Icebergs pierce the azure skies.
Light’s more dazzling, shadows darker,
Choices clearer, contrasts starker.
Open vistas hide no lies.

Keep your crowded, southern highways
Where cars scuttle back and forth.
We prefer the unmarked byways
Underneath our clear, blue skyways,
Drinking deep from Nature’s source.

Life is better, here up north!

Gosh, that poem truly depicts our beautiful country! We really enjoyed our summer this year! We visited much loved family and friends, and really took the time to enjoy the season. I didn't walk as often as I should have but we biked, swam much and enjoyed the grass more! We homeschooled through out the summer season, although for only half the day! I'm excited about getting back into our regular routine, and I'm not.

The stress! So much to accomplish. My husband wants the kids to return to school next Fall. We had decided to homeschool because our oldest, who has ADD and is LD, was falling through the cracks. At 15, he still wasn't reading or writing at grade level, and was unable to stay on task. The school was ready to send him to trades school and I wasn't willing to let them close the door on his life options. I'm proud to say...he reads for pleasure now! He's completing the work in front of him! He's completed Algebra 1/2 and is starting Geometry this semester.

I promised my husband that next fall at the latest, he'll be attending CEGEP, our junior college. He doesn't feel ready for this Fall semester. That's just fine with me! I get one more year! Only one more year. It's a decision that will save my marriage.

Hmm...

Will you join me as I relish in our successes at this the end of our family's homeschooling journey? And how about in my never ending quest to get healthy? Yes? Good!

Blessings,

Thea  ><><

Hey Girl...thanks for stopping by my blog. It's hard when you're husband is not in agreement with your wishes on homeschooling, but now you have a whole other year to pray and see what God would do in the situation. :0) Over the summer my husband announced that he wanted our youngest DD to go to public kindergarten. It was an incredible test for me during that time. Would I undergird his decision or dig my heels in defiance? I cried, prayed, sought godly councel thru friends, and finally gave it to the Lord. Long story short my dear hubby was afraid she wouldn't have friends, and it broke his heart that our two older kids always had friends to hang out with, but his littlest one didn't. So I made a pact with him. I would actively pursue bringing other "littles" into my home - or take her to theirs - at least a few times a week if he'd forget about the whole PS thing. He agreed! And I am one happy momma. Whew! That was close. :0)

Hope you have a beautiful day friend. Sorry this comment is so long - just had to spill.

Blessings,
Lori

P.S. I'd love to have you for a neighbor!!! :0)
