Thank God I'm A Country Boy!

• Feb. 28, 2008 - To speak?... Or not to speak?... There is no option.

Well... I did it. I officially passed the written test for the Oakland Fire Department. It sure took them long enough to let me know.

The next step: Oral interview.

I am not particularly looking forward to this one at all. It's going to be a three on one personal chat in which I m going to have to try and sell myself to the best of my ability, essentially trying to convince them that I am a better candidate for the job than the 900 (give or take a few) other hopefuls out there. I could use a lot of prayer on this one if you wouldn't mind.

Here are a couple of interview cartoons for your enjoyment. Enjoy. That was redundant...

Lets hope mine turns out a little better than that guy's.

I could answer a sports question. I doubt they'll ask though.

This is where I start to get worried.

Thanks for reading.

...relax, you will do fine, just enjoy yourself!!! (Or something like that.)

They say that ballet is very good for relaxing. Maybe you would like to start dancing? (Though I must say, whoever said that must have been in the audience. Maybe it was WATCHING ballet that is relaxing!)

I hope that the interview goes well for you! It's great that you passed the written test!
When are you going for the interview?
"Now don't be nervous! just remember, everything depends on this!" (Sorry, that quote was so perfect I just couldn't resist.)

Linds: No-mas, you are great to talk to face-to-face!

Rach: I heard that lately you have been acting like a first born, and I am very disappointed with you. On Sunday we are going to have a face-to-face!!!!

Linds:... a tete-a-tete if you will...

(Mom calls us to go put away laundry and get some cleaning done... we always pick the worst times to write comments!!!!)

You'll do just fine.

"Don't worry, be happy!" (That awful fish! Why did I think of THAT?)

Hasta,
~Katalina

P.S. This is the edited portion. I don't know about you, but I'm always curious as to what was edited. Anyway, right now I'm listening to Mayberry! And last night my monthly hall event was going to the beach for a bonfire, hot dogs, marshmellows. Reminded me of that time you guys ate a gazillion on our trip. Oh! this is funny! So we were right next to another fire-pit that has two couples around it. In-between someone asking them for firewood and us putting our fire out and smoking them up, one of the girls proposed to her boyfriend! THE GIRL!!! Of course I had no idea what was going on and asked them if they wanted our leftover newspaper for their fire. Luckily that was after they were already hugging. . . my friend Lauren had to tell me what was going on when we got to the truck. Boy did I feel foolish!!!
Thought you might enjoy that!
Bye for real,
~KjL

I commented on Ben's blog, so I have to comment here so things stay even. Thomas has been putting a lot of effort into preparing for the interview, and I am pleased with his progress. This drama is going to stretch out as many as three years, so let's all settle in and see what happens. Thomas is the sort of person I would want on my crew, even if he weren't my son.

I can see that you are preparing for your fire career by making people laugh. You'll have a grand time in the OFD then!!

Dad's pleased with your progress, so you must be doing something right!

On Thursday we can discuss CLEPs...

I will continue to pray.

Love & Blessings, Mom
