The Day Before Yesterday and Yesterday
We had a pretty good few fourth of July days! The evening before the 4th we went to the small local lake and swam. It was especially fun when the boats would come by because they would kick up big waves, and when the big waves came I would float on my back and go up and down, up and down... Then we went to the house of some of our friends at church. We ate pizza and treats, and played volleyball, at least me and my sister did, and I sat and listened to and watched the moms chat. There were two very cute babies there, and one I enjoyed watching. The mom was holding it and when she bent down to get something, her little girl baby spotted the baby that was sitting next to her's bottle. Of course she grabbed it and started to stick it in her mouth, but her mom noticed in time to take it away and give her her own bottle. Her mom started chatting again and for a while the baby was content with her bottle, but then she looked over and saw the lady that was sitting next to her's soda can! Well, the baby's eyes got real big and she reached over real slow with both hands, started picking it up real slow, and then shoved it bottom up over her mouth. All this while I was watching amusedly from my chair, waiting for the mom to notice and wondering if the baby would succeed in soaking her mother and herself. The mom did notice and take the pop away quickly; and thankfully (or sadly, depending on your point of view) the can had been close to empty so no pop got anywhere. After that little escapade I heard someone wonder out loud who would get "the Dr. Pepper". Of course, I asked what that meant and mom told me that a little girl had been running around with a can of Dr. Pepper earlier, had dropped it, and it had rolled for a little before being retrieved. It had then gotten put back in the cooler. Mom said that we should bring it to dad (half joking) and I was going to when she reminded me that he didn't much care for Dr. Pepper. That didn't slow me down though, I went over and asked him if he would like a can of soda, which he accepted, and so I went over, got him a can of Cola, shook it up good, and brought it to him. He opened it and it made a nice fizzy mess. Then we watched the fireworks display from their yard, which was very nice. I also managed to drink three cans of pop while we were there, something I rarely do because pop does weird things to me sometimes. When we got home the combination of all that sugar and all that caffeine made me extremely hyper. It started while I was walking into the house from barn chores, I imagined I had a big brush and was brushing my llama, gesturing with my hands and making sounds effects. When I finished 'brushing' her I spread out my arms and said, "Tahdah!". Then I pretended I had my trimmers and acted like I was shaving her, still making my wonderful sounds effects, and finishing off with my "Tahdah!" Well I got in, chatted with mom for a little, or rather chatted to mom, and then walked into my room where my sister was. I sat down, feeling rather strange (I usually do not get sugar high, and I usually don't get really hyper), and my sister looked at me funny. I burst out laughing and she gave me an even weirder look, which made me laugh even more. So I was laying on my back cackling on my bed, with my sister asking me what on earth my problem was. After a while I got up and went back into the kitchen, still giggly, and mom looked at me weird too! Again I started laughing and started babbling at her (she said she could hardly make out what I was saying) and then went back into my room where I crashed on my bed, staring at the ceiling and feeling exhausted as my sugar high ended. That night I woke up twice with a sore throat. The first time I was going to get up and get something to make it better but I fell back asleep to quick. The second time I got up and had a spoonful of honey, we get the raw stuff so it is actually good for you as long as you don't eat too much. In the morning my throat was even worse so I drank of ton of water and had another comforting spoonful of sugar. I felt a little better but my throat still was a little sore and my nose started getting runny and stuffy, I get allergies sometimes but these were the worse I've ever had. When we were ready we went to grandma and grandpa's, where we helped set up for the party and then started fishing. Me and mom fished about all day, with my brother and dad fishing every now and then too. We caught three bluegill large enough to eat, a bunch of smaller ones, and then one of our relatives also caught a bluegill large enough to eat and gave it to us. It was evening when I gave up trying to catch a nice big catfish and went inside for a little before going out again. I cast my line, found I was getting too impatient to just sit and fish with a bobber, so I pulled it back in and took the bobber off to do some ground fishing with a piece of hot dog. I started casting in random places, and then suddenly my line jerked! At first I thought it was just a bluegill fighting really hard, but then I saw it flash in the water and knew it was a big fish. When it was on shore we found it to be a very large catfish! Mom thinks maybe ten pounds. Then mom takes her bobber off, baits with hotdog, and casts right where I had and almost immediately she gets a bite too! It was a catfish, not as big as mine ( -grin- ), but still big. We strung 'em up and left them in the water. Then we went up and waited for dark. We watched "Fantastic Four", "Shanghai Knights", and some interesting Smithsonian things while there. When it was dark we shot off the fireworks, lots of fountains and mortars. I hid inside once the fountains were done, and even ran inside during some of the fountains when I found they weren't much like fountains. You must know, I am a whimp when it comes to explosions and fire, I don't like it. I honestly think that the way we celebrate the 4th is not the brightest. Come on! We're pretty much blowing up our money and risking getting hurt! I think we have a great reason to celebrate, but I don't much like the way we do it. =P I like firework displays, those are neat, but when it comes to doing things ourselves... Anyways, they finished blowing things up and we got ready to leave. When mom and dad went down to get the fish though they found that my great big catfish had gotten away, and that something had eaten one of the bluegill! =O I was sad for the loss of my fish but oh well, I can still brag that I caught it because I have grandma and mom as witnesses. During the whole party my nose was stuffy/runny, but as long as I stayed outside I was okay. When I went into my grandparents' house though I would start sneezing constantly! On the way home my allergies pulled off their own little 'grand finale'. I started sneezing, my nose started running and hurting, my eyes watered and hurt, my ears and head hurt, and I started having trouble breathing! When home I washed my face with cool water, which helped, and then when we got in from barn chores I took a nice relaxing shower. I flopped into my bed exhausted after taking an antihistamine and I slept like a rock (as I always do when I take one of those little pills) all night. Seeing as this is getting pretty long, I'll post about today tomorrow. |
