Think back to a time when you were called upon to answer a question in class. Describe it. I didn't really know how I was going to word my answer so I rambled a bit before answering in a confused manner, and when I was finished, I kind of ducked and hid behind my book.
This chapter, I discovered that I... Tend to try to resist being a fool, when it is a necessary experience in life.
CHAPTER 10
List ideas that may help you resolve conflict here. Feed Back Meaning - p. 294
Notice non-verbal messages - p. 296
Get to the point - then elaborate - p. 300
Use a mediator - p. 301
See the Conflict within you - p. 302
Gather several print advertisements or taped TV commercials. Identify any techniques that the advertisers are using to persuade you, such as appealing to emotions or playing on fears. Below, describe ads and techniques.
foreign children fund things use appeal to pity and appeal to emotions (guilt trip stuff) to get sponsors. Good cause, flawed and bad commercials.
Do the techniques work on you now that you've noticed them?
I've known about them for a long time, they've never worked on me.
This is my 70th post. Go me. I rock.
Here's some more master student. LOL
Describe a time when you felt stuck in your thinking, unable to choose among several different solutions to a problem or several stands on a key issue in your life.
I couldn't think about anything else till I resolved that problem..
I discovered I might be able to improve my thinking skills by... Not being so dang LAZY!!
Focus and let go
cultivate creative serendipity
keep idea files
collect and play with data
Ha ha ha okay, bye then! I'm not saying anything more except I have schoolwork to do so I'm going now!
But I'm not gonna do anything about it. HA!

Of the classes in which you are presently enrolled, pick the one you find least interesting. Write down all the ways YOU make the class uninteresting or less interesting.
Grammar
By not really WANTING to learn all those rules
Now write down all the ways you can re-create this class as interesting:
By thinking of it in the same way I think of a challenging game: It may be tough, but it feels good to make it in the end.
~~~~~~~~~~~
From Chapter 5: note taking. This will be short and sweet.
~~~~~~~~~ Think about the way you have conducted reviews of your notes in the past. Respond to the following statements by 'always', 'often', 'sometimes', 'seldom', or 'never'.
I review my notes immediately after class: Seldom
I conduct weekly reviews of my notes: seldom
I make summary sheets of my notes: never
I edit my notes within 24 hours: sometimes
Before class I conduct a brief review of the notes I took in the previous class: sometimes
Apply the process of "Love Your Problems" to note-taking.
Loving your problems can be used in the process of note-taking by writing the most important (or most boring) parts down in more detail and reviewing more extensively, so you can remember it well.
~~~~~~~
That's all. There was more but it involved notes from another class but I don't have any yet this year and none from last year anymore, so I'll do that part when I have notes from another class.
Often don't read effectively enough with what I don't want to read, mostly because of skimming.
Quickly review this chapter and select three techniques you intend to put into practice.
I intend to...
Heed the message
Read it aloud
Sweeten the task
So School has gone well so far in the first week, except Thursday when I overslept and then was out of the house for a few hours. I didn't finish my school then until late at night...
But other than that it's all gone well...
TheFisher out.
Now that you have read about muscle reading, review your assessment of your reading skills in the Discovery Wheel on page 17. Do you still think your evaluation was accurate?
Yes
What new insights do you have about the way you read textbooks?
I need to Outline and Underline more (see below).
Are you a more effective reader than you thought?
Somewhat.
Less effective?
Not really.
Which muscle reading techniques do you already use? Answer in Always, Often, Sometimes, Seldom, or Never.
Preview - Sometimes
Outline - Seldom
Question - Sometimes
Read - Always
Underline - Sometimes
Answer - Sometimes
Recite - Often
Review - Always
Review again - Sometimes
At the moment I'm grounded from the computer, so I'm not going to say anything else yet. ;)
The master student qualities I observe in myself include:
accepting of self and others
resistant to conformity
has a few close friends
independent (I'm trying to be at least!)
caring
courageous
inquisitive
competent
energetic
What is a specific example of how I model one of these qualities:
Inquisitive:
I am always quick to wonder how something works the way it does, or why it works the way it does, the reasons for things, etc.
For example, I was using a walkie talkie and I asked Dad how the signals work and how they can go through the air without being blocked. (I learned in science sometime after Dad's answer that wireless things bounce signals off the ionosphere at such an angle that they would get to the other device.)
Independance:
I get up at 7 in the morning and start on my math before mom even wakes up.
Regarding my preferred stage of learning, I discovered that I...
am not so good at just watching or listening, I have to actually try for myself and experiment with things to REALLY understand it.
Given my preferred stage of learning, I intend to...
Get better with watching, listening, and planning. Also get myself prompted to come up with ideas for things other things than drawing... LOL And get better at gathering information.
Remember an enjoyable experience and write about it for 3 minutes about what you liked about it.
That has to be bowling on my 13th birthday.
I liked:
Having the company of G D and his siblings, M & A
seeing how good we could do with different methods of bowling
goofing off when it wasn't either of our turns (G and I) mostly while still watching the others' turns... :)
Having G over for a while and eating hot dogs and ice cream cake after bowling, but sadly, M & A had to go home!
PS I'll be blogging about my life sometime soon.... ... ... ... ... ...
One of our cats was nuzzling me a LOT and so I was petting and rubbing it back, and it just comes out and BITES ME! Right on the nose! So now I have a nice little gash/cut on my nose. It kind of looks funny. I'm having a hard time being angry at him, because I have the good personal trait of not being good at holding grudges. I still love him... Oh well. He's usually a good cat.
O_O I have a tough and WIERD assignment to do, so I'm not going to talk here.
Time yourself for 10 minutes, type as fast as you can, and complete the sentences.
It is ineffective when I:
Nag Stacey about hurrying up when I'm not much faster,
Try to get Stacey off the computer, mostly blog and e-mail, during a school subject, when I do the same thing sometimes.
take my watch off, because I always forget to put it back on.
Don't explain myself fully, which gets me lowwwwer marks in school.
It doesn't work when I:
try to get up early when my alarm goes off 'cuz I'm SO LAZY IN THE MORNINGS!
Try to remember to do things, because I usually don't try if it's something I don't like to do. *hides*
Try to study without using a good study method.
I could change:
by trying harder to remember things,
practice what I "preach"
And.... -_- ummm.. not be so tired in the mornings by getting more sleep, and splashing my face with cold water in the mornings
working to create habits [by taking my watch off at night and putting it on in the morning so I develop the habit of putting on my watch]
Try to get into the habit of explaining myself fully, by having everyone else remind me to, and remembering on my own, too.
Remember to use a good study method, of course!
I am very good at:
Drumming!
Coming up with witty comments on the ball!
Computers!
Drawing!
Designing things out of LEGO!
Being hungry! t_t
Hand/eye coordination
Math!
Swimming!
Science!
Spelling!
It is effective when I:
Examine the full problem, and look for solutions BEFORE speaking.
Search the web for more information about things.
Am calm, cool, and polite to people when trying to help settle problems.
Something very positive about me is:
Others find me a good friend
I have a good sense of humor
I can usually get things done in good time if I try
I have several good skills [drawing, computers, memory]
That's it. Bye! Mom asked me while I was finishing this, "Don't you have a good memory?" so I said, "I don't remember. Do I?" She also said, "I am sometimes amazed at how well you remember some things, like the hydrogen bonding!"
