I feel that perfectionism is a good trait, most of the time. Not always, though. Sometimes it can get you into serious trouble. Some people can get really annoyed that you want everything done 100% perfectly, and cause you some major trouble. I wouldn't do that, but who knows what some people will do? I think perfectionistic people need to really harness their perfectionism, even if they have loads of trouble with it, just so they can be a bit nicer to the others around them. It also teaches a bit of humility and selfishlessness. I have an idea: Why not be perfectionist about harnessing perfection? That way they can be perfectionistic, yet not so perfectionistic at the same time! You know what I mean?
Yet in the same sense I feel it IS a good thing at times, like in the work field, for example. If you are a perfectionist, you'll get more promotions, and raises, things like that, more often. At home, it's useful for not getting in trouble as much [for all the kids out there], and helping your kids establish good skills for use when they are out on their own.
For all you kids out there who might have a perfectionistic parent: Don't worry about it. Just follow their rules, do as they say, and develop the good skills and habits they want you to develop. You may get frustrated with their perfectionism, don't show it in an inapropriate way. Just count to ten [not out loud], do as they tell you, and move on. That's my advice. May not be fun, but it will be worth it one day.
For any parents who may be struggling with perfectionistic kids: Don't get angry. They are born with a fairly good character trait, just teach them to the best of your ability how to harness perfectionism.
To any perfectionistic parents with perfectionistic kids: If you have learned on your own or been taught well how to harness your perfectionism, you should be fairly good for teaching your kid[s] to do the same. If you haven't learned how to harness your perfectionism, you should put in a special effort to lean how yourself, so that you can teach your kids how to harness theirs.
Controlling perfectionism is never easy, but it is essential to persist with it and do your best.
So that's my thoughts and advice on perfectionism. Comment and let me know what you think!
Adios!
