Thirty-Something

Aug. 5, 2008 - Summer Camp

Hey what's up! I went to church camp last weekend, and it rocked! There were actually other guys there this time (last camp it was just me one other dude, we moved up to 4 guys this time lol), so we got to do cool stuff in our room, like knock each other unconscious with pillows.

The messages were great, our camp theme was "Even If", based on Daniel 3:17-18: "If  we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your god or worship the image of gold you have set up."

The background of this verse go like this: the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar made a huge image of gold and commanded that everyone bow before it. Those who didn't worship this image were to be thrown in a fiery furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were three Jewish men who feared God (the one true god), so they did not follow the king's orders regarding the image. They were arrested and given one last chance to worship this Idol, or the furnace was their future. Would they bow down? They replied with the above verse.

That's what camp was about. The questioned asked to everyone, and I now ask you, was "Will you serve God, even if..." You can fill in the blank.

In case you were wondering, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were saved from the furnace. Take a look at the rest of Daniel 3:

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The king's command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, 23 and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace. 24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, "Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?" They replied, "Certainly, O king." 25 He said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods." 26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!" So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, 27 and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, "Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way." 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

If you want to know more about this God who these Jews would die for, and who then saved them from a fire that killed those that threw them into it, or if you'd like to know about His son, Jesus, I be happy to talk with you.

That's what the main theme of camp was about. I don't think anyone left camp without getting at least a little something from it. Please pray that we put what we learned into practice.

Jul. 22, 2008 - I'm not thirty-something, it's a title, it's a joke, and it's not gonna stay for long

My blog has undergone some construction. The fact I wanted to change my template was one of my excuses for not posting for while... A long while. But, now I'm pretty much happy with my template, so that excuse is gone. Hence the posting.

Seriously this time, though, I'm gonna try to post more. And comment more. And do it a lot faster than I usually do. Also, I have a playlist again, so tell me if you have requests for songs.

By the way, has anyone read the book "Do Hard Things"? I got it for my birthday and I'm almost finished with it. That book rocks! I strongly recommend you read it.

Peace

Jun. 19, 2008 - It's been too long

It's been way too long since I last posted. I'll try to post more since baseball is almost over and things are slowing down slightly (not to say that was a good excuse before--laziness).
My team now has quite a few losses, but we still get to play in the championship. I have a game tonight against a friend. I been playing against that friend all week, but not baseball. We've been helping with VBS at his church, and before and after the stuff we do, we've been playing basketball with friends.
Wow, two paragraphs! I don't feel like writing anymore than that.

Peace (wow I'm a hippie)

Jun. 2, 2008 -

I have a baseball game tonight and another one tomorrow night, but on Wednesday, Lord willin', My bro, neighbor, and me are camping out! My plan of action: make a fire, eat, do something, eat some more, maybe tell really lame jokes that we laugh at anyway cause it's 3 in the morning, you know the usual stuff you do when you camp out.
Yes, we're still gonna be in my backyard, but we have a firepit back there, and we don't live in a crowded suburban neighborhood, so it's all good. Also, if it rains, we can go inside and play video games instead of playing with fire lol.
My team (still undefeated) won the first half of our league games. I think I finished with a .500 batting average. For those of you who don't know baseball, that's very good.

OK, that's long enough, I'm out (what now Dylan?)

May. 26, 2008 - Memorial Day

Today we went and got breakfast at IHOP and then shopped all morning--my mom and sister really did most of the shopping, but we were all there. It was a long morning lol. It really wasn't that bad.
Then we came home, I worked out cause I didn't have baseball and My sis and bro did music stuff. We lounged around, ate lunch, and watched a movie. Then we lounged around some more and ate some more. It was an eventful day.
It rained off and on all day today, that was one of the reasons we didn't do as much. If it hadn't rained, my bro and I would've gone swimming with our neighbor. Bummer. Actually, strike that; we'd have swim in rain, but it there was lightning, so the pool was closed.
Last week I had 5 ball games--no joke. We won them all, it was great.
So there, I posted--now you guys have to comment.

Peace
