Mere Christianity

Posted in Posts by Puddleglum

Hello, this is Puddleglum, and before I actually begin this post, I'd like to point out we have 100 comments! Isn't that amazing?

Okay, just a few minutes ago, I finished a C. S. Lewis book called Mere Christianity, it is about the doctrine of the Christian faith... it is amazing and changed the way I think about everything. It is the best book I have ever read. It is not too long a book, and is not boring, it is actually very interesting and quite funny in some parts. Now, I DID have to re-read just about every sentence at least one time. It is a brain workout, but it's good for me, eh? =) Of course it is! =) Yes, it is the greatest book I have ever read, and up with my favorites. However, I do not recommend it for anyone who is not ready for a pretty hard read, but it's not full of big long hard words and stuff like that, what he is trying to say is hard for anyone to express, but Lewis did an incredible job and it does not drive you mad because it is so hard, it just makes you think. And everyone can use a bit of thinking, right! Haha. It is a must-read.

How's this?

Posted in Posts by Puddleglum

I have a fun idea for something to do in the club. Every month I am going to post a questionnaire for each book, in this order:

  1. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
  2. Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia
  3. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
  4. The Silver Chair
  5. The Horse and His Boy
  6. The Magician's Nephew
  7. The Last Battle

So, from now 'til the end of June I will be holding a questionaire for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and whoever gets the most answers right wins an award that I will design using a few pictures from that book. These are the questions. There are 10. The only rule is that you don't look at your book for the answers, please do it from memory.

  1. Why did the four children have to hide in the wardrobe together?
  2. What is Peter's title once he kills Fenris Ulf?
  3. Who went fishing for dinner at the Beavers' house?
  4. What does the White Witch drive?
  5. What did Edmund break in the Battle of Beruna?
  6. What smell does Lucy love?
  7. What did Father Christmas say he would do for Mr. Beaver?
  8. Why did Rumblebuffin pick up Lucy?
  9. What were the Kings and Queens hunting for in the last chapter?
  10. Who said "Once a king or queen in Narnia, always a king or queen"?

I know these are really hard, but I wanted to challenge y'all.

Screwed Up? Maybe spoiler for y'all who don't know what happens to the Pevensies in the Last Battle

Posted in Posts by Puddleglum

Note: I used to go by Shasta, but now I go by Puddleglum. I'm here with a question for the members. I've heard some people say that C. S. Lewis really screwed up The Last Battle. They say it's awful that Narnia ended and... spoiler in my next two words... everyone died. I have an argument against that.

Everyone dies. It's a fact of life. No one got angry at Lewis when old King Caspian died in the Silver Chair, no one pointed fingers when Aslan sacrificed himself on the Stone Table. Everyone cried at those, which is fine, but no one blamed Lewis.

And the death of the Pevensie children is happier, because you SEE them go to Aslan's country, you get to SEE what happens! Are you angry because Narnia ended? Well, what about Charn? Did you cry about that? Everything comes to an end. Aslan ended Narnia right when it needed to. Imagine what would have happened if Narnia lasted any longer? Shift would have ruined Narnia anyway! And everyone goes to Aslan's country. Everyone. Even the Pevensies' parents.

Now do you feel differently about Farewell to the Shadowlands? Do you think Lewis "screwed up"?

The Lady of the Green Kirtle... MAJOR SPOILER FOR THE SILVER CHAIR

Posted in Posts by Puddleglum

Hello, if you have read the Silver Chair, then highlight all the way down to my signature and you will be able to see what I have to say. This is just so you can't accidentally see the text if you haven't read it.

I had some questions about the Lady of the Green Kirtle. First of all, why does she have the three different names, The Lady of the Green Kirtle, The Green Witch, and the Emerald Witch? Two, is she the White Witch's sister? Just curious.

Brave Puddleglum (Spoiler maybe, The Silver Chair)

Posted in Posts by Puddleglum

"I don't know rightly what you all mean by a world"... "But you can play that fiddle till your fingers drop off, and still you won't make me forget Narnia; and the whole Overworld too. We'll never see it again, I shouldn't wonder. You may have blotted it out and turned it dark like this, for all I know. Nothing more likely. But I know I was tehre once. I've seen the sky full of stars. I've seen the sun coming up out of the sea of a morning and sinking behind the mountains at night. And I've seen him up in the midday when I couldn't look at him for brightness."

    Puddleglum's my favorite non-human, non-Aslan character. Here's another quote.

"I'm going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn't any Narnia."

Shasta on Susan Pevensie and The End of Narnia (Warning: Spoiler! If you haven't read the Last Battle, don't read this!))

Posted in Posts by Puddleglum

Susan Pevensie is the second oldest in the Pevensie family, and a lot of people have different opinions about her. In my opinion, she is very much like Uncle Andrew in that she made herself not able to hear Aslan in her older days. In Prince Caspian, she didn't want to believe Lucy that she saw Aslan, and in The Last Battle, Jill Pole says, "She's interested in nothing nowadays except nylons, lipstick and invintations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grown-up.

Now I need to say something about the end of Narnia. In the Last Battle, Aslan ends Narnia and everyone either goes to Aslan's country, or is lost, like the dwarves in the stable who no one could get to believe they were out of the stable. When Aslan gave them delicious things to eat and drink, they thought it was rotten lettuce and dirty water.

So we know what happened to the Narnians, but what about the people in our world? I think that every world came to an end, too. Because all of London was there, not just the Pevensies' parents.

In that case, what happened to Susan? Where is she? After thinking over what I read in that book, I think Susan is lost, like those dwarves.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Horse and His Boy... hmm...

Posted in Posts by Puddleglum

    Hello fellow Narnians,

This is Shasta once again with a strange theory. The Horse and His Boy is not a Chronicle of Narnia; it's a Chronicle of Archenland and Calormen! The characters are only in Narnia at the very end, and the Narnians (Queen Lucy, Queen Susan, King Edmund, Mr. Tumnus, and Sallowpad the Raven) are hardly in it at all. I don't know what I'm saying. It's just not set in Narnia and the main characters are from Archenland and Calormen, that's all. Just a weird thought!

    May Aslan guide you,

    Puddleglum

    Hello Narnians!

Welcome everyone to Sons of Adam, Daughters of Eve. This is a group where we talk about Narnia, the people and creatures in it, the symbolism, C.S. Lewis's life, anything really. I will not make a speech on our first day, so if you're interested in hearing one, stay with us, one will come up soon. And make sure you read through our rules! I have read all the Narnia books and love them all!
