BFS #101 Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz, Oh What A Relief It Is!

Assignment: This would be a good week to tell about your worst struggles with a lifestyle of homeschooling.  Tell about something you’ve struggled with and how God’s mercies gave us the strength to get past it.  Also, share any curriculum/homeschool methods that have been a relief to you, i.e., a particular Teacher’s Manual or Homeschooling method that’s been easier for your family.  Talk about how you felt when the burden was lifted and Oh, What a Relief it is!

Well, being so new to this I don’t really have much to tell yet. However, I am excited to read all the seasoned mommies assignments to gather much inspiration and encouragement.

A verse I find encouraging is Psalm 119:33,34 “Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yeah, I shall observe it with my whole heart.” (KJV)

So far though, albeit into my 4th week here, my biggest struggle is what to do with my nearly two year-old while we try to do work at the table. Unfortunately, she has been sick this week and last with a painful cold and has been quite irritable and time-consuming. I also know I am going to struggle with the creativity I need to make sure my kids are having fun. I am so far from being innovative and fun that I need to let loose and just relax here!

I read on Nancy's Nook that it is important to be sure to let go and let God control our homeschooling. Oh I need to get there completely! Thank you for the reminder.

I also intend to fix this closet this weekend. Friday I will be buying a new orgnizer drawer system for our winter hats, gloves, etc and our homeschool drawer system will go back in here too. This closet is a task I've been avoiding but will help out tremendously once I tackle it. I hope to be able to store some homeschool supplies in there once it's in order.

Left Side & Right Side. It's a mess

I noticed last week that the picture doesn't show up in hsb very well. If you want to right click on the picture and save it to your computer, then on HSB you can go into your Photo Album and upload it from there and click on POST and it will automatically go into the new post you are writing, if you've already written it then just hit Browse from the little box in Photo Album and chose the file from your computer... or you can put the code in and take those funny looking quotation marks in every place you see them...not the bold " marks they're are some that look really strange, those are the one's causing the problem...contact me again if neither of those works..email me if you need more help. nking@hughes.net

Hi Melissa, I only homeschool one, so when she's sick we just don't do school. You didn't say how old you're older girls are...I wouldn't know what to do with more than one if I had one sick...maybe only work with the others on the most important thing while the sick one is napping or resting in bed with a picture book...hopefully you'll get better advice from someone besides me...LOL your post is linked on the Mr. Linky to the wrong assignment...it should be this one: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/thelordismyshepherd/587344/ you can copy and paste that in the mr. Linky and I'll ask Tamara to delete the #9 one...LOL

Thank you for sharing.

Sep. 9, 2008 - The babies are an interesting addition to a day

of schooling. I usually just had the toddler near me as much as possible. That way, he felt a part of things. I always had a basket with goodies to do. Those cheapy workbooks from the dollar store, little quiet toys and their books. It is hard, especially when they are sick. Just wean out the "can get by without" stuff for a couple days, teach the harder subjects during naps. It will take time to figure out what works. Eventually, they grow up and become official students...hang in there!

Thanks for your post on my blog. You are right homeschooling is a good label. I was having a horrible day. It felt good to let it all out. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed with everything.Trying to be everything to everyone. It is hard. I really need to let a few things go. So glad you are starting homeschooling. It is so awarding. So wonderful and sometimes so hard. Good luck

I too, need to relax and be a LOT more flexible when it comes to schooling. I am trying to be more hands-on this year, but so far it is not working! But PTL, I can try again tomorrow!

Blessings~

I hear you about your two year old! I have a 2 year old that keeps us all so busy, as well as a 9 month old who seems to be about ready to start walking. It gets crazy around here at times, but somehow we make it through. The goal is to "just keep swimming, just keep swimming!" ;-)

Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope to hear from you again!
