Diet Sodas make you fat

I have been drinking diet soda for years.  At one point, I was up to six or seven a day.  I had to have one to start my day.  I was a diet soda addict.  One day I noticed - who drinks diet soda?

How many healthy thin people do you know that drink it?   What do the really healthy people you know drink?  I bet they drink water.  I quit diet soda.  It was hard.  After two weeks without it, I tried one.  Wow, it was awful.  Now I miss diet soda.  I remember how much I used to really enjoy it.  I don't enjoy my water that much.  However, I think my body is healthier than it was when I was drinking the diet soda.  I have fewer chemicals, additives and preservatives in me everyday.  In the long run, I think that is better.

Recipes

I found a frugal recipie site that I hadn't been to before. The information looks sensible and the recipies look good, healthy and easy. I also like the name.   Just wanted to share.

We made bread

Fall is finally here.  The leaves all dropped off the big tree in the front yard almost overnight.  There is a touch of coolness in the air most days.  This of course means its time to make bread.

The girls and I made bread last week while I had a cold.  It was surprisingly easy with the giant freestanding mixer that hubby and the kids got me for Mother's Day.  It did a wonderful job of kneading the dough.  I was very impressed.  The bread turned out wonderfully also.  We made one round shaped loaf and one loaf in a loaf pan.  I was actually able to make sandwiches with the bread from the loaf pan.  It sliced up beautifully.

Now I am inspired to make bread more often.  It is much easier with a mixer than kneading by hand.   Maybe we will tackle sticky buns next.  Yum.

What do you make for lunch?

On Monday and Wednesday, we have lunch at the zoo.  On Tuesday we have lunch at co-op.  Thursday we have lunch at home.

I am perfectly happy to eat a peanut butter sandwich for lunch seven days a week.  That’s what I for lunch my entire 12 years in school, before college.  Sandwich + fruit  or veggie + cookie + soda (wate for the kids) = lunch.  Simple.  Now, D doesn't like bread, never has and is allergic to dairy.  What am I supposed to feed her for lunch?  I will not eat lunchmeat - never have liked it, and never have been convinced that it is safe to eat lunchmeat that has been sitting in my car for an hour.

I found some recopies online that I am going to try this week.  One is a simple pasta and broccoli salad - the kids like pasta.  The other is for a "pudding" made with a banana and an avocado with optional tofu.  I'll still pack peanut butter sandwiches just in case.

Viruses for food?

Okay, I am sure everybody has read this already, but in case you missed it.  The FDA has approved treating lunch meat with viruses to kill bacteria.  I guess that is the end of us eating lunch meat.   We need to start looking for this statement on meats now : " treated with an antimicrobial solution to reduce microorganisms"  That is one of the phrases the FDA said would be on the packages.  Nice.  Glad I only eat kosher delimeat.  Vegitarian is starting to appeal to me again.

Purple Corn?

Have you tried purple corn extract?

I recently got interested in going on a raw food diet and checked some books out of the library.  While I was waiting for them to become available ( who would have thought you'd have to wait for books on not-cooking), I did some research on the raw food sites.  I came across purple corn listed as a "super food".  So I ordered some.

Two weeks latar and wow.  I think I am starting to believe in superfood.  According to my research, its supposed to help you burn fat, regulate your sugar, fight aging.  Its full of anti-oxidants.

I actually lots 5 pounds.  Yes 5 pounds of "I won't diet cause I'm still nursing" post-baby weight.  I am very excited.

The downside of course is that it tastes like dirt.  Yep dirt.  Not even good dirt.  I mix it with cranberry juice and all you can taste is dirt.  Its also very purple.  My whole family had a good laugh at how purple it turned my tongue and teeth.  Brushing after drinking the purple dirt is highly reccomended.

Purple corn dirt is my new favorite vitamin-like healthy substance.

And if you're wondering, Diet Coke is NOT a raw food.  I quickly returned my books after I learned that giving up soda would be more beneficial for my body than anything else.   Yeah, I need to find a different wierd diet to investigate now.
