Tonight I was doing flashcards with the boys. It's a great multi pack with shapes, colors, opposites, counting money, telling time, etc., and the boys just love doing them.
I seriously feel so patient in teaching the boys things, and feel very equipped to teach. But teaching opposites is just the opposite! lol It's funny how something so "basic" to us, can be a hard concept to grasp for little ones. I tried coming at it from every angle. Explaining it on the flashcard and using their pictures. Going over to our desk, and opening and shutting the drawer. Then I used my hands. I had both hands up, and palms open. I explained that my hands look the SAME and are open. Then I shut one hand into a fist, still keeping it up next to my open one. I asked them what this was. Ben said, "That's the door handle!" Kids.......
I was telling my sister about it, because she had great success teaching Hailey her opposites. Of course, it could be the student and not the teacher. But I think it's nice to get a different style or person doing it. So she is going to come over tomorrow after supper and give it a whirl. We'll see what happens! |
