Something on my heart: Playing Games at the Foot of the Cross
As revival is sparking up all over western North Carolina, I wonder... have we been playing games at the foot of the cross? I know I have. My husband and I had to get some things right this weekend. (Yes, preachers and preachers' wives have to repent sometimes, too.) The Lord has had the following song on my heart for years. I finally found the song and learned to play it and sing it a little.
Playing Games at the Foot of the Cross
You've heard the story many times before,
How the soldiers gambled for the robe of the Lord.
Their laughter drowned out the Savior's cry:
"Father forgive them," as He bowed His head and died.
They were playing games at the foot of the cross,
So close to His struggle, yet so far from the cost.
Never feeling the shame, and never sensing the loss,
They were playing games at the foot of the cross.
Verse #2
We're so quick to judge them, yet so slow to see
How their games resemble ones played by you and me.
As we fight for position in the church today,
While the world goes on dying never knowing His saving grace.
And we're just playing games at the foot of the cross
So close to His struggle, yet so far from the cost.
Never feeling the shame, and never sensing the loss, We're just playing games at the foot of the cross
That song broke my heart. I am sorry my voice cannot do it justice. But if you have been playing games... if you are a Christian and have been "playing church..." it's time to stop. It's time to repent. If you have sat upon His throne in your life... repent.
2Ch 7:14
If you are not saved or if you are having doubts... now is the time of salvation.
"I am a sinner."
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 3:10-12 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
"There is a penalty for my sin."
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death;
"Jesus took that penalty."
Romans 6:23b But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
"I must TRUST in Jesus alone."
Rom 10:9-11 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(Note: Rom 10:9 -That if thou shalt confess, etc. - Acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Savior. Believe in your heart that he who died for your offenses has been raised for your justification; and depend solely on him for that justification, and you shall be saved.)
Eph 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: itis the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Act 16:30-31 ...and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said,
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.
What does it mean to be LORD? If you confess and believe on the **LORD**
Jesus**Christ**... what does that mean?
LORD- to acknowledge him as Lord and having a right to rule over the soul.
A willing submission to His rightful authority.
JESUS- Savior (His name actually means "He shall save His people" from the
Hebrew name Joshua) In other scripture He is called Emmanuel. That name
means "God with us." In other words, God came down to be the Savior of man.
CHRIST- Messiah. The promised one sent by God.
Jesus isn't just a Savior. He is the RISEN LORD. Is He the risen
***LORD*** to you?
Here I am, Lord
I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
Whom shall I send?
Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will send the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide,
'Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?
Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
