~ A new school year! ~

We are about to begin a new year of homeschooling.

I am quite anxious, as we are trying something new this year. We started homeschooling two years ago, and while I love it - I still feel like I haven't 'found my groove' yet.

Our first year I was very eclectic... in a traditional, Charlotte Mason-y sort of way.
Our second year I was even more traditional, and our curriculum comprised mostly of textbooks and workbooks. It was not a good fit, and so every few weeks, just to break up the monotony, we would throw in a unit of Five In A Row. It was like a breath of fresh air. Soon the kids were asking to do FIAR all the time - and while in my heart I really wanted to - I just couldn't make the switch full time, and I don't know why....

Partly because of guilt over money spent on all of the textbooks, partly because of worries (What if it's not enough? Will there be gaps? Will they learn enough? It's not traditional....Will they be behind their public school peers?)
And....mostly because my (very traditional) husband looks at FIAR and goes.....

For this upcoming school year. I chose to go with My Father's World.
It seems to be a nice mix of everything I've been searching for.
It is very academic ( which should please my traditional husband), it's easy to use (yipee for ME!), and it has short, fun lessons that use a lot of real books. (Hooray for everyone!)

Now...all I gotta do is get my act together...organize my books, buy a few remaining school supplies, and pick a start date.
