Zoo trip!
You all know by now that I love the zoo. I think I could go every day and never get bored. I love animals. (Nature in general)

This fellow has been under his blanket, or being bashful, when I've been to visit.

But yesterday he decided to come out and say hello. I'm so glad he did. He's such a "handsome" Orangutan. If you haven't been to a zoo this summer, there's no time like the present. Get out there and enjoy God's creation.

Wild Rice Recipe
I have another recipe to share with all of you. My husband came up with this.
We all love it!
Wild Rice With Raisins and Pinenuts
4 Tblspn. Butter
½ large onion or whole small - chopped
1 apple - chopped
¾ cup raisins
½ lemon –juiced
½ c. pine nuts
3-4 c. Wild Rice - already cooked (See bottom of this post for directions)
2-3 Tblspn. chopped cilantro
Sauté onion in butter, ‘till translucent.
Add chopped apple. You can peel it or leave peel on. If you cook an apple with the skin on too long, it may become separated from the apple. (Irritating, but not deadly, that I know of.)
Juice the ½ lemon.
Pour in some raisins.
Now comes the wild rice. Once you’ve put this in, you’re committed to stirring.
Throw in the pine nuts.
Last but not least, the cilantro. It goes in when everything else is hot. This totally makes it. Fresh cilantro will make this dish “sing”. If you're not a big cilantro fan, you could try fresh basil. It would also go well in this dish.
Once everything is hot, serve it up and enjoy!
 Cooking Wild Rice is easy.
2 c. Wild Rice
3 c. water
(Pan with a lid)
Put water and wild rice in the pan. Turn heat to high. Wait for it to start boiling. As soon as it starts to boil, put the lid on and turn the heat to as low as it will go without going off. Set your timer for 25 min. Go do something else until your timer goes off. Don't lift the lid. I know you will be tempted to peak, but don't, it lets out precious steam. When your timer goes off, turn off the heat. remove pan to a cool burner or to a trivet. DON'T lift the lid yet. let it set for another 10 minutes. Now you can start getting the rest of this yummy recipe together. :) When your timer goes off after the additional 10 minutes,
"you may now lift the lid". :) It should be sort of a soft-chewy, just starting to split open. Enjoy!

A Time Of Refreshing
In my personal Bible study time I've been pouring over scripture about renewal,
rest, filling, and guidance. Because I've felt like I was running on empty. When I get that way, I usually,
withdraw from everything and everyone and
try to"restart" my engine. Well, you can't restart an engine that has no fuel.
Even if you get it started you won't go far. Matthew 5:6 say, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled". Psalm 23 speaks of how we are cared for by our Shepherd, Jesus.
He guides us, gives us rest and fills us to overflowing!
Ephesians 3:20-21 says, "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly
above all that we ASK or THINK,
according to the power that works in us,
to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus t
o all generations forever and ever, Amen".
Praise the Lord for His constant care, His love, and His abounding blessings in our lives. He refreshes, revives, and refills us, so we can continue serving Him with gladness.
Isaiah 40:29 say, "He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might he increases strength".
Psalm 8:3-4 - "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon, and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
and the some of man that You visit him?"
Thank you Lord.

Jun. 13, 2008
Happy Father's Day!
Psalm 127:3
Behold children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.

I LOVE this picture! Just the unreserved love of Squirrely-Jo for her Daddy. It's so precious. Children are such a blessing and a gift from God.

I am thankful for My Husband and my children.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY HONEY!
May the Lord Continually bless you as you lead our family in serving Him.

Celebrating 39 Years of Life!
Psalm 139:13-16
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the
lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance,
being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.

Fun & Games with Writing
Have a little fun with words.
Have you ever played “Mad Libs”? Where someone asks for nouns, verbs, adjectives, and you say whatever comes into your head, and it turns out to be a crazy, nonsensical, story?! Well, if you like that you’ll like this next game I’m going to tell you about.
Sunday, we were over visiting with Robinlyn’s family. We had a wonderful time. I got involved in a writing game with Breezy Tulip, and Miss Emily Rose. It’s great fun if you’ve never tried it you should.
Everyone gets a piece of paper and a pencil. You write your initials in the left hand margin and write a sentence, then you hand it to the next person. That person writes a sentence based on what you have written, then folds over the paper so the next person can’t see what you’ve written. So, the paper continues to go around the circle of people and each person writes a sentence based on what the person before them has written. (The rest of the sentences are hidden, by folding over the paper.)
This is the story I started, but I imagined a completely different ending.

(For those of you who can’t read the above picture)
My sentence: Alice Beetle caught a dreadful cold, while assisting her brother Bart Beetle with his chores.
Person 2: Bart was so sorry he made his sister Alice sick, and tried to make it up to her by making a get-well card for her.
Person 3: Even though he made a get well card she didn’t get well, she just got worse.
Person 4: And she died.
Person 5: The whole family was sad.
My sentence again (Not realizing that this was even my story): Dad threw himself into he work in the barn; mom stayed in be with the covers over her head; and the rest of the family sat starring at each other, their minds in total confusion.
Person 2: They couldn’t figure out what happen to their family; everything was so disorganized, the children couldn’t fix their own meals, and their grandparents refused to visit.
Person 3: Nobody wanted to come over or do anything, so they just sat on the couch and watched TV.
Person 4: Because of all the TV, their brains began to shrink, and their stomachs enlarged because of their vegging.
Person 5: They were all so scared and ran into a hole.
My last sentence (Not knowing that this was my story): Pushing and poking one another to scoot over, so they all fit, and now they were safe,
I didn’t realize poor Alice would die, I feel awful! This is not at all the story I saw in my mind. I like happy endings. But it made us all laugh at the sad down word spiral of the whole thing.
If you are looking for a rainy day game to play with those in your family who can write, this is a good one. Have fun!

Saving History One Jar At A Time!
I love old jars, boxes, tins, and the like. They just don't make stuff like that anymore. I try not to get it and let it sit around. I try to use these old things for something useful around the house. I have a bunch of old jars I got from my grandma's house that hold my grain, rice, beans, hot peppers, and coffee. I have them on a shelf that my son, Bubba, and his grandpa made. To add to the charm, I put tea cup hooks in it and hung some old pans, that came from my grandma's. (there's a theme that runs through all my vintage items, almost all of them came from my grandma's.)
I got a call from my mom about a month ago, she told me that there were over a hundred canning jars out in my grandma's old garden shed, if I wanted any to help myself. Whatever was left when I'd gone through them was going to a recycle plant near where we live. I thought, great, I love jars I'll go and see what's there. I showed up and my dad was working around where the shed was. I asked him about the jars and he said, help yourself, take as many as you want. I thought, this is like Christmas! :) I walked in and there were old jars in garden baskets, buckets, boxes, anything that could hold them. I thought my mom was joking when she told me how many there were, but she wasn't. Wow! The only thing was they needed to be cleaned up. They were covered with dirt from being stored for so long, out in a country shed, on a dirt road. I just kept diggin' 'em out and checking for sturdy ones, makin' sure the lids fit, and boxin' 'em up. When it was all said and done, I think I had about seven boxes full.
It's like steppin' back in history when you look at them. So, I took them home, cleaned them up, and separated out what I would keep, and what I would share.
I still ended up keeping about 5 boxes worth of them. Some of them will have buttons put into them, some ribbon, some who knows what. All I know for sure is when I look at the blue and green glass jars with their zinc lids, it reminds me of a simpler time. Things were made to last. If things were ripped, they were patched, if they were broken, they were glued, and if it faded they re-dyed it. Nothing was really "Disposable", it was reusable. So, I'm going to use these jars over and over again, and then pass them on to my children and they'll use them, and they'll pass them on to their children . . . and I'll have saved history, one jar at a time.

This is My Father's World
"This is my Father's world,
The birds their carols raise;
The morning light, the lily white
Declare their Maker's praise.
This is my Father's world,
He shines in all that's fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me every where."

March Brought . . ., April Brings . . .UPDATE
Psalm 139:1 – 6
O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways, for there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it.
Thank you for you prayers. The news from the kidney doctor was good all things considered. My husband’s kidney disease is a type of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and as such mineral imbalances are usually part of the progression.
PTH is a hormone released by the parathyroid gland. This hormone helps maintain calcium and phosphorus levels. Vitamin D is needed to help the parathyroid gland release the right amount of PTH in the body.
Since his kidneys can not process enough vitamin D the PTH builds up and synthetic vitamin D hormone (this is very different then over the counter Vitamin D Supplements) is necessary to help maintain the correct level of PTH. This condition is called Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SPTH). Secondary, because it's caused by the (CKD).
The dangers of SPTH are that bone disease can develop, muscle weakness, heart problems, high blood pressure, anemia etc... So needless to say it is important that we control it.
The Dr. and Bob did discuss dialysis Thursday and thankfully he doesn't require it yet. When he will need dialysis all depends on how slow or fast the disease progresses.
So where is he at? The blood pressure (BP) is still a bit iffy and he has been given the option of starting another drug or going back on the sodium restricted diet (less than 500 MG a day). He opted for the sodium restricted diet as the next wave of BP medicines are known to have more noticeable side effects. He is hoping that the diet will make the difference. The upside of the Low sodium diet is that he can stop taking the Lasix unless his BP spikes again. Lasix dehydrates him and makes him feel groggy and tired (though he has trouble sleeping due to the SPTH go figure).
The type of high Blood Pressure he has is also called secondary hypertension because it is high BP caused by the CKD. Controlling BP is very important as well since high BP can cause the CKD to progress. Rising BP can also be an indication of the CKD progressing. What a vicious circle.
From here we just keep an eye on the BP (at home) and the calcium, phosphorus, and PTH levels (via a blood test in a month).
The disease has progressed but all is in God's hands and we are thankful that it has not progressed any further or any faster.
All these things that have happen lately have made Bob’s kidney disease very “real” to me. (When I say “real” it’s like when you’re first pregnant and the test says positive and the Dr. agrees with the test, but until you see your stomach growing and feel those first kicks . . . then it’s “real”. It sort of takes your breath away and you sit in amazement of the way God works.) Before when we would talk about it, it seemed a far off thing that would happen when we were old. He told me today that it has always been “real” to him, but he didn’t say anything much because he did not want to cause upset and worry in others. It’s been a great reminder to all of us to say, “I love you” more and to appreciate one another more. We are living each day praising the Lord for what He gives us.
Again, we truly thank all of you for your prayers and encouragement.
Lamentations 3:22 – 24
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”

1 Corinthians 13:4 - 7
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy, love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 John 4:7 - 11
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to to love one another.

March Brought Poison Ivy, April Brings . . .
Romans 8:28 - 31
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us who can be against us?
Sometimes the Lord has us go through things that seem dark, difficult or scary. You don’t think you can do it or make it through. Your head is spinning and you want to hide under the covers until it goes away.
These trials are to grow us. They are to make us run to our Lord and Savior, Jesus. We are not suppose to be able to get through it on our own. We can only get through it with the Lord’s strength. That it may bring Him glory.
2 Corinthians 12:9
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
We are going through a trial at our house right now. My husband, Bob, has a kidney disease and because of that he has high blood pressure. He’s been on medicine for it, but it stopped working since his last check up. Now his blood pressure has been spiking. He went for blood tests and we’ve been waiting for the news.
Bob just got a call from the doctor and the news was not positive. His PTH (a hormone produced by the thyroid) level is 428 while the normal level is between 12 and 65. Bob has secondary hyperthyroidism, which is due to his kidney disease. We don’t have all the information yet but they have prescribed another med for Bob, which he has to pick up today. The nurse said it is very expensive. He also has to go in for more blood work this afternoon. We will know more Thursday when he goes back to the doctor. He’s been dealing with insomnia & fatigue, which has to do with what’s going with his thyroid.
We would appreciate your prayers on this. Thank you.
