Makin' A Home

This poem was in an old magazine from my grandma’s house. It was written by Ann Johnson, Sacramento, CA. She won a $1.00 prize for it!

“Makin’ a Home”

It isn’t much this place of ours,
Some foks would no doubt say;
An’ some might even whisper,
“My, how can they live that way?”

It’s only two little, tiny rooms;
And it has no bath, it’s true,
But we have a big ol’ wash tub
And we manage to make that do.

‘Twas such fun a fixin’ it up,
Why we papered the whole inside;
An’ when we gaze on the shiy paint
It fills our hearts with pride!

Some Folks can live in mansions
An’ hire everthing done;
But sometimes I git to thinkin’,
They’re missin’ a lot o’ fun!

They never know the joy
Of doin’ things theirselves;
Like makin’ curtains and hookin’ rugs,
An’ paperin’ kitchen shelves.

Or buyin’ things at bargin sales,
And gee, that’s heaps o’ fun;
An’ figurin’ out how much it cost
When all the work is done.

Sometimes I think if we was rich,
With a mansion and servants galore,
An’ all the walls was painted gold,
I couldn’t love it more!

Action

I wrote this poem when I was working and would be up late unwinding from a long day. These are some of the thoughts of my busy mind with good intentions. Through the Lord's good pleasure He brought me home from that job and now I am a full time Wife and Mom once again. I am very thankful to Him for that. Some days I catch myself being very lazy, but I do have action in my life, not just good intentions. I owe thanks to my Heavenly Father for that too.

Action

So much to do and too little time.
Those words are branded upon my mind.
I’ve one life to live,
so much to give,
to learn, and achieve.
Still here I am, folding my hands
and taking a nap in the sun.
Work mounding up,
and chores never ending,
yet nothing is getting done.
If I only lived my intentions,
what a life I would lead.
There would be love
and selflessness in every single deed.
Yet here I sit,
just the thoughts in my head.
When I should be putting them
into action instead!

14 Days of Home Schooling!

This is just a bit of fun. I received this in an email from another home schooling friend. I don't know who wrote it originally. (If anyone knows please tell me so I can give them the credit. Thanks!) It's something you can sing for your relatives this Christmas.  I hope you enjoy it.

The 14 Days of Homes schooling

(To the tune of “Twelve Days of Christmas”)

1.    On the first day of home school my neighbor said to me, “Can you home school legally?”
2.    On the second day of home school my neighbor said to me, “Are they socialized, can you home school legally?”
3.    On the third day of home school my neighbor said to me, “Do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you home school legally?”
4.    On the fourth day of home school my neighbor said to me, “What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you home school legally?”
5.    On the fifth day of home school my neighbor said to me, “YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you home school legally?”
6.    On the sixth day of home school my neighbor said to me, “How long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you home school legally?”
7.    On the seventh day of home school my neighbor said to me, “Look at what they’re missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, Can you home school legally?”
8.    On the eighth day of home school my neighbor said to me, “Why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, Can you home school legally?”
9.    On the ninth day of home school my neighbor said to me, “They’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, Can you home school legally?”
10.    On the tenth day of Home school my neighbor said to me, “What about graduation, they’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, Can you home school legally?”
11.    On the eleventh day of home school my neighbor said to me, “I could never do that, what about graduation, they’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, Can you home school legally?”
12.    On the twelfth day of home school my neighbor said to me, “Can they go to college, I could never do that, what about graduation, they’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, Can you home school legally?”
13.    On the thirteenth day of home school I thoughtfully replied: “They can go to college, yes you too can do this, they can have a graduation, we don’t like the prom, we do it cuz we like it, they are missing nothing, we’ll home school forever, WE ARE NOT STRANGE!, We give them P.E., and we give them tests, they are socialized, and WE HOME SCHOOL LEGALLY!
14.    On the fourteenth day of home school my neighbor said to me, “How can I get started, why didn’t you tell me, where do I buy curriculum, when is the next conference, WILL PEOPLE THINK WE’RE STRANGE?, I think we can do this, if you will help us, can we join P.E. and we’ll home school legally.”

You're Tired!

I wrote this poem back in...well the date really isn't important. I wrote it awhile ago, but it's still just as true as the day it was penned. Enjoy!  Shutterbug

You're Tired!

Your body aches, your mind's in a clutter,
"Why am I under so much stress?", you mutter.
You're in a dead stare, you have blood-shot eye,
These tell no  lies, you're tired!
There's work to do that you thought you had done,
And you ask yourself,
"Whatever happened to fun?"
Cheer up my friend and try to grin,
For tomorrow it starts all over again.
