Treasuring the Moments
Nov. 5, 2007 - Three Things to do For Your Child
Posted in Inspirational

Just for today do not look at your child as something needing molding or pruning.  Look at him/her with "beginner's eyes" - new eyes.  Look at your child as already a person with all the seeds of "being" already there.  Respect the intelligence/creativity/sense of humor of YOUR very own child.  Respect his thoughts.

Spend a few minutes alone with each child this week, giving him your undivided attention during that time.

Make sustained, loving eye contact with your child.  So often we use this important means of communication as a tool of discipline.  (THE LOOK!)  Today, use your eyes to communicate unconditional love.

Oh I like that.
I love looking deep into a child's eyes and them looking back in mine. But mostly I love the moment of realization when a baby sees themselves in your eyes and knows that they are also in your heart.

I have an idea given to me by a friend a long time ago. Take turns with your children allowing one child to stay up a little later than the others and spend time with just that one child playing a game, or reading, or just listen to that child talk, tell you a story, or whatever they want to do. It makes them feel extra special.

I love that loving look idea. A loving smile goes a long way, too. Sometimes, in my busy life, I concentrate on the finish line and forget to smile.

You are so right. "The Look". It is often given for something other than love. I will use my eyes this week to look at my children and allow them to see the love I have for them, the smile they bring to my face just because they are my children. Thanks for sharing.
