• Dec. 2, 2009 - Spider Egg Sac

Posted in Creation
I found a spider's egg sac

We opened the egg sac.

Most of the eggs had died, at least one hatched, but it didn't make it either.
The tiny dark spot is the baby spider that was dried up with the eggs.
It was really cool.

• Nov. 26, 2009 - Arboretum in Autumn

Posted in Creation
I like to study trees, birds, and pond life.

This Fall we took a walk through our local arboretum. An arboretum is

a park like place where many kinds of trees are planted, because

trees attract wildlife you  can sometimes spot birds, squirels, rabbits,

ducks, geese, toads, and in this place there is a pond, so you may find

pond frogs tad poles and dragon flies in the summer.

We discovered this place about a mile from our home when on a walk

our first summer here. Mom decided she likes to spend time there in

the spring and fall, because we don't have to worry about tics then.

Last month we walked over that way to look at the farm animals at the

fence line of a small farm and explore an old, old cemetery while talking

about the big wars...

On our way back home we stopped to walk around the pond.

Mom recognized the call of an oriole and sure enough we looked up to

see a few amongst a group of trees. I noticed a Blue Jay and told

everyone where to look. As we walked over the small footbridge to the

other side of the pond there was a cardinal to observe.
This is a picture of an unusual tree on our block that we are still trying to find out what it is called. Do you know? They cut if back every fall and in the spring it grows new limbs. The leaves are huge and a sort of heart shape. In the fall they get pods on them.

We enjoyed this time so much that we planned for Dad to come with us

next visit a few weeks later. We had another great time with Dad,

though it was cooler and there were few signs of life in the trees. We

focused on the trees and the pond plants. My sister's both got a cat tail

from the pond. We also collected some wisteria seeds from some vines

that grow on an arbor and sure hope they will grow for us next spring.

When spring breaks in May we will head back to see how the trees are

budding. I look forward to that day.

• Sep. 26, 2009 - Jonny Appleseed's Birthday Sept. 26

Posted in My State
For tonight's bedtime story mom read to us about Johnny Appleseed.
We'd read before how he walked across our state of Ohio and Indiana too!
We love apples here and life is just not the same without our daily apple snacks.
We planted two in our back yard a years ago they are still small but we got a few apples on them this year.
You Tube has a nice video to watch

Thank You Lord for Apples and the man that helped start so  many trees that feed people and animals.
