I got the boys off this morning and on their way for their nearly-two-week-long adventure at Philmont, a Boy Scout High Adventure camp located in the wilds of New Mexico. We were not sure they were going to end up going after all because Dan managed to give himself a good case of "runner's knee" and was quite concerned about being able to hike five to ten miles a day for days on end. After two trips to the family doc and one to an orthopedist he was given a combination of drugs that should see him through the trip and reassurance enough that he probably wouldn't damage his knee permanently. We hope.
The girls and I are trying to figure out what to do with ourselves for the next thirteen days. Usually Rebecca, my planner, would have an itinerary mapping out every minute of that time, but she couldn't come up with too many ideas and so we're kind of taking it day by day. Today we went to the Dollar Theater (this is always capitalized in my head, sorry) and saw Nim's Island. The premise was good, but really the plot was terribly thin in too many places. I'm glad I only paid 75 cents (it's Tuesday, reduced rates you know) for this one. The girls really enjoyed it because we filled up the minivan with neighborhood kids before we went and so they probably would have enjoyed anything. |
