Gearing up for Robotics

Posted in Fun Stuff

Yesterday we spent mucho time painting the newly acquired "robotics lab" for our open house TOMORROW!  Our coach is renting a bit of warehouse space to house all of the paraphenalia needed for three levels of competition!

Although Elizabeth has not been involved in robotics, she came along to help out with the painting.

That last shot is Elizabeth perched up high watching her red paint dry.  Rebecca, wanting to be equally helpful, decided to wash her sister's toes as they had aquired a red coating.  We are nothing if not an extremely efficient family!

Rebecca also was useful.  She painted the gray.  A second coat of gray.

Gray is a somewhat monotonous color and with such a loooooooong stretch of it to do, she quickly grew bored...and stuck!

Oh, help me PLEASE!

Are you seriously going to blog this?!

But I'm sure other painting opportunities will eventually arise.  The girls had a lively discussion about the next color their bedroom should be.  The argument wavered between this shade of red, royal purple, or lime green!

Definitely not gray.

Finally!

Posted in Fun Stuff

All winter I've admired everyone else's snow pictures while lamenting the fact that we have had none.  Oh, we've had plenty of cold enough days, (no global warming here!) but whenever the wet stuff came down it was always way above freezing.  Not that I'm complaining.  Georgia is still in a drought and we need all the wet stuff we can get, I just wanted some white wet stuff.

Well, today my children's prayers have been answered!

I had to bring in the plants from the porch that I haven't planted in the yard yet.  No point in killing the beautiful blossoms, eh?

Papa went out and picked some of the daffodils that have bloomed because it's going to dip down into the twenties tonight and that will kill anything that has opened up.

Rebecca, my baby, is the only one of my children who actually ventured out in the snow--and she is still the sickest!  I guess the other two were just praying for a SNOW DAY.  Well, they got it--on SUNDAY!!  Ha.

Me:

Do NOT throw that snowball at me!

Me:

Ooh, my child throws like a girl!

What did she do that for?

Tonks got into the action as well:

It will probably be long gone by tomorrow, but now I can stop griping about the fact that the whole world gets snow and I don't.  Now I think I will go mop the kitchen floor.  Yes, I do love snow, dragged in muck and all!

Tease!

Posted in Fun Stuff

Rebecca loves to tease her dog.  Tonks will retrieve anything and bring it back to you, but she couldn't quite get her mouth around this oversized tennis ball!

3. Post the picture with an explanation and link it back to your tagger.

4. Tag four people to do the same!!

This picture hails from February of 2007:

Okay, in order for this photo to make sense, I'm going to have to expand this meme a bit by adding these:

Elizabeth, you can't carry your brother!

Sure, I can, Mom!

See, no problemo....

And Rebecca looks on...What idiots I have for siblings!...in picture number five.

Getting these out of my system...

You Are 67% Likely to Survive Another Great Depression
Even though you may not be expecting the worst, you're the type of person who prepares for the worst.
You live a relatively modest life. You don't overspend, and you aren't very materialistic.

You are also quite self sufficient and independent. You have many useful skills.
You can take care of yourself and those you love... which is crucial to surviving another Great Depression.
You Are Not a Cheapskate
When it comes to money, you're very fair.
You're generous when you can be, and you never cheat anyone out of what they deserve.
If you have the money, you enjoy splurging. But you never overspend.
You Are Most Like Ronald Reagan
People tend to think you're a god - or that you almost ruined the country.
But even if people do disagree with you, they still fall victim to your charms!
You Are 12% Democrat
If you have anything in common with the Democrat party, it's by sheer chance.
You're a staunch conservative, and nothing is going to change that!
You Are Somewhat Machiavellian

You understand how the world works, even when it's an ugly place.
You just don't get ugly yourself - unless you have to!

You live your life with tranquility. You have faith that things will work themselves out with time.
You judge all your interactions through the lens of hope. You try to get all the facts before forming your opinion.

You face challenges with wisdom. You know that all bad things pass, and you have the confidence to see problems through.
You see love as the utmost expression of trust. Your relationships tend to be peaceful and stable.

At your worst, you can be cool, melancholy, and detached. You sometimes have to step back from emotionally charged situations.
You are at your happiest when you are able to reflect and relax.
You Are Andale Mono
You are a geek, pure and simple. You spend a lot of time online.
In fact, you probably love the internet more than anyone you know.

You are picky about design, mostly for readability's sake.
You are the type most likely to be irritated by a bad font.
You Are a Spork
You have a playful, eccentric sense of humor.
You are creative. You see the world in bold colors.

Fun Poll!

Posted in Fun Stuff

Go Here to participate in this poll/contest!

1.  Why did you start a blog?

I started a blog so that family could keep up with the happenings in our corner of the United States and also because I'm too lazy to scrapbook.

2.  What did/do you hope to accomplish with your blogging?

I want my parents and sisters to be able to see what we're doing and as an easy way to "pass out" photos which I really haven't done since we switched to a digital camera.

3.  Have you found that you don't post as much as you did when you started?

Yes and no, it really depends on what is going on in life.  Blogging isn't top priority, but it is high and I hope to be more consistent.

4.  If yes, why not?

See # 3

5.  How important are comments to you?

Comments are fun, but I would blog without them.

6.  Do you ever find yourself wishing people would not always leave comments that agree with you?

I'm open to whatever people take the time to say.

7.  Do you comment on other people's blogs a lot, sometimes, or very little?

I try to visit everyone's blog who comments to mine and I will usually find something to say.

8.  What determines why you don't post a comment on someone else's blog?

Time is the biggest factor, but there also has to be some sort of connection either positive or negative.

9.  What determines why you do post a comment on someone else's blog?

I will comment on a blog if I can either totally relate or not relate to the post and I will comment either way.

10.  Do you have more than one blog?  Where?

Technically yes, I started a blog about chemistry this year, but life got in the way and I'm probably going to delete it.  It has only four pitiful posts.

11.  Do you read random blogs either off of random blogger or friends lists?

On very rare occasions I will do this, but more often I find new "friends" via comments on others' blogs.

Happy Birthday Baby!

Posted in Fun Stuff

This post is way late because...well, because....

Some people just don't like the idea of getting older.  Rebecca was totally unexcited about turning 14.  Given the choice she would have cheerfully gone back to 12 instead of forward to 14.

The child is my "Peter Pan" wannnabe.  Eventually we all have to accept the inevitable, however.

Happy Birthday Baby!
