Feb. 2, 2008 - Ice Festival

Don’t know how the weather is in your area but in Michigan we’re had some really cold days.  About two weeks ago on one of those REALLY cold days we went to the Hunter Ice Festival in Niles, MI.

They have ice carvers come in from all over to compete by carving big blocks of ice into fabulous sculptures!  It’s a lot of fun to watch and see how they carve their creations.  The rough cuts are done with chain saws and then they have a lot of other tools to do the fine carving.  One of the things they use is an iron to melt the ice and attach other pieces to the main sculpture.

This year it worked out the same weekend as Sanctity of Life Sunday so the local Crisis Pregnancy Care center downtown (where the festival was held) had an open house with hot cocoa and cookies!  It made a perfect warm up spot for us.
