Feb. 22, 2008 - Uncle Eric books

Have you read any of these?  I just love them.. Recently, I ordered Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? and Are you… Liberal? Conservative? or Confused? and  was very impressed!  I read the Penny Candy one while at my daughters’ basketball practice last week .

They are both books written by Richard Maybury that are easy to understand but have deep concepts as well.   He writes them as an uncle answering his nephew’s questions about Economics (Penny Candy) and Politics (Liberal? Conservative?)  I’m planning to do them with all four of my kids, ages 8-14.  My older two will get a lot out of them and I’ll have them do really good projects and essay’s from the corresponding study guide but they are written so that my younger ones will be able to understand most of the concepts.  Eventually, I’d love to have the whole series (there are more on law, judicial, more economic concepts etc…)  I know I’d like my older to do the Clipper Ship next year as well.

I learned a lot reading the book.  It’s not just the basics you get in many texts or unit studies but the history and places the concepts and ideas come from as well.  Check them out or if you already have leave me a comment and let me know how you used them in your family.
