May. 6, 2008 - The Best Kept Secret in Homeschool! |
I just got my copy of Old Schoolhouse in the mail yesterday and was delighted last night to find an impressive review of Total Language Plus. The reviewer closed her interview by saying, “I think it is the best-kept homeschool secret out there!” I couldn’t agree more! That’s exactly how I felt when I found it!
You can read the full review here, just chose Total Language plus from the list.
I’ve been going over our lists of curriculum for next year including our choices from the Total Language Plus guides. We are choosing to do Adam of the Road and Trumpeter of Krakow due to our being in the medieval period in our history curriculum. Last weekend I got our science curriculum for next year, Christian Kids Explore Chemistry and in the back it recommends study of Alchemy. It’s so funny how God works this out as I goggled Alchemy what should come up but Trumpeter of Krakow! The main character encounters an Alchemist and his daughter.
This year we chose to do Carry On Mr. Bowditch as we were studying earth and space. Mr. Bowditch sails by “lunars” and stars. Amazingly enough he also studies Latin which we started this year too! I certainly didn’t plan all this. I try my best but God sure helps!
What else are we choosing? Well, I’m thinking Swiss Family Robinson, High King, The Cricket in Times Square, The Courage of Sarah Noble and probably a few more but it’s not final yet! Of course those choices are for all my kids not just one.

I think it's wonderful that God is leading you in your schooling and your letting him. Lots of people don't realize how much better life could be, if they let God do the leading.
I have to make time to do my sewing and crafting. A lot of times, I'll quilt or cross stitch while watching, what little tv I get to watch, LOL!!! I cross stitch while waiting for the doctor or the girls soccer games. I try to keep something small with me, so that it's not a lot of trouble to pull it out and get to stitching. My alphabet girls are really small. Each picture is only about 4 inches, length and width. I just have so many other things that I work on, that it has taken me years to get to Q. I have to finish my stocking for Christmas this year. I have a quilt that needs quilting, but I don't have a quilting frame, so it's going to be really hard to do that. I could pay someone to do it for me, but I want to do it myself. I have to make my mom's birthday and Christmas presents and Noelle's quilt. I have a wall hanging that I need to finish for her too. I probably should finish that first. LOL!!! There's so much that I want to do too. I want to make quilted curtains for my kitchen and dining room. I want to make a lighthouse wall hanging for my bathroom. I want to make a teapot wall hanging for my dining room. I would like to make something to do with fish and the ocean for Faith and Hope's bathroom. A lot of times, while they are doing their basic work, I pull out my sewing and sit at the table with them and sew. They need very little help with these things, so it's easier to sew or craft while they are doing their work.
I hope you have a great day. |

Hi we like TLP also. We are homeschooling our 12yr old daughter...last year was our first year using TLP. We did, The Cricket in Times Square, A Christmas Carol, The Incredible Journey, and Anne of Green Gables. This year we are doing Julie of the Wolves, The Twenty-One Balloons and Swiss Family Robinson! The only complaint we had was that we didn't like the grammar section...so we suppliment with other grammar. But, I like that it has improved her vocabulary quite a bit.
Enjoy whatever books you choose for this coming year!
