Lessons Learned on the Farm

• Aug. 15, 2005 - Our Story - Part 2

Quickly the parents and friendly realtors began looking high and low for just the right house and land.  Like Goldilocks they had to look at many before they found one that was “just right” for them.  They found a very nice two year old home with a pool and 5 acres.  They thought it was “the one”.  They made an offer and it was accepted.  The whole family was very, very happy.  However this is where the story takes a turn.

When the buyer’s (of their nice old historic home) loan got held up and was going to be closing later than planned, the seller of their nice little house out in the country decided they no longer wanted to sell their home.  The happy little homeschooling family was very upset.  They had sent pictures to family of where they were going to live.  They had begun buying wallpaper and accessories.  They couldn’t figure out why that was happening.  They were totally shocked.  Now they didn’t know where they would live when they closed on the sale of their home.

Their friendly realtors said, “Do not fear, we will help”, but the family just couldn’t find the house and land just right for them.  They began to wonder if they would have to rent a house to live in, buy some land and then build a home, but still couldn’t figure out how it was all going to work.  Where would they be able to rent?  If they were going to live in town, they would have just as soon stayed in their nice historic home.  Things were starting to get a little tense.  Even the youngest was starting to bite his nails.  But the family still prayed and trusted God to take care of things.

Many people had heard the story of the happy homeschooling family and would suggest properties to them.  One friend told them about a home on a farm with 44 acres that had just gone to auction (while the family still thought they were buying the other home).  The family had heard about it, but was just sure it would be way, way too expensive.  But they were wrong.

The bad day at the auction turned out to be very good for the buyer and the gentleman who bought the house was going to try and quickly sell it for a profit.  The gentleman was rather hard to get in touch with, but the family prayed and soon they were meeting with the man to look at the farm.  The gentleman had already had a contract fall through on the property, so he was very eager to sell to a family who was really ready to purchase.  Oh but would they be able to afford it?  The family had heard that this gentleman didn’t always deal like a gentleman and could be quite the shyster.  The family, however, felt God on their side and prayed that God would tender the gentleman’s heart towards them and deal fairly with them if that was where God wanted them to live.
