Well since I am blessed and highly favored , it worked out for me to go visit my friend Jamie and her family after my trip to TN for TOS meetings!! It was no small feat.
See, my friend Jamie's husband is in the Army and that doggone Army has them stationed a gazillion miles and an ocean away in Hawaii. Now while I'm really happy that she's getting to live Aloha, I'm kind of tired of her being so doggone far away. I think it's been 2 years since we last saw each other.
Anyway, she and the kids just happened to be visiting Jamie's family in North Carolina and had a few days available for me to go visit right when I had already gotten things lined up for me to be out of town for a few days anyway. What a blessing!
Isn't it funny - no matter how far apart we are, we somehow usually end up with the same hairstyle and clothes....We didn't coordinate or anything. We are just truly sisters-at-heart!
Jamie's parents were so kind to open up their home to me like one of their own and it was such a great visit. Jamie and I talked non-stop, I got to catch up on things with her kids, hang out with her mom, and crack up at her dad's crazy sayings. His newest is "Build a bridge - and get over it." I think it's a keeper - so appropo, so often.
Jamie's mom is such a great decorator. She has a wonderful knack for displaying old items in a decorative way. Look at this great table & fountain that she put on her deck. Everything on there is just stuff that she had laying around. She just stuck a fountain in that washtub and put a few dishes and a pan in there for the grandkids to play in. I am SO going to copy that idea!
And I LOVED getting to visit with her kids. I didn't get to visit with Tom because he was on a cross country road trip with his brothers, but we did chat on the phone for a bit. Jamie and I are both blessed with wonderful husbands that know how important it is to us to get to visit with each other. Thanks Tom for letting Jamie head back to NC to see me! Anyway, back to those great kids of theirs...
They both just continue to grow into strong Christian kids. It's so neat to see how much Michael talks and acts like his dad and how Alyssa has her mother's heart. Alyssa knows how crazy I am about her. Jamie and I met right when she was about to have Alyssa so I can still remember holding her with that little head full of dark hair, watching her learn to walk and talk, and enjoying watching she and Michael put on their music shows at my house! Oh, those were the good ol' days. But things do keep getting better. Alyssa wrote me the sweetest note before I left. What a sweetheart.
So I'm thankful that God provided the time and opportunity for me to get to take a visit to The Great North State (as they like to call it) and that I got to enjoy the time with some of my most favorite people in the whole wide world. No matter how far apart we are geographically, I am so blessed that we still stay close at heart!
