My family and I made our move out to the country about a year and a half ago now. Neither my husband nor I grew up in the country, so its been a bit of a Green Acres kind of experience for us. We have been so blessed with wonderful friendly neighbors, friends who have farm experience and are willing to teach us and great resources like Hobby Farms and Storeys Guides.
All of our friends love to hear about our latest adventures on our farm. So many people desire to move out to the country! I know that we loved reading other peoples stories about moving to the country and getting started there.
We are still researching and deciding how well use our 44 acres alpacas, miniature cattle, sheep, horses, goats
. Hmmm
there are so many things to consider. Weve already gotten our first horse and are experimenting with organic gardening and pastured poultry. I went to a wonderful Rare Breed Expo in TN and found a really neat magazine with lots of helpful information called Hobby Farms. I would really recommend going to an event like the Rare Breed Expo to see first hand all of the different types of animals and talk to the breeders. The tough part of it is that they all look like fun. For us, the biggest issue was fencing. We have an old farm and an old fence, we'll have to make some updates before we can put anything more behind it than a content old horse.
Life out on this farm has been life changing for us. Truly our children look out the back window here and say, Wow, I cant believe this is all ours. I have been so touched and inspired with all of the blessings (and humor) that have come our way that I want to share them with you all. Thanks for stopping by for a visit to our farm!
