• Sep. 19, 2006 - Lessons Learned from the Vacation
- When you rent a car, you are expected to be there to pick it up within an hour of your reservation time. The fact that I wasn't aware of that policy really threw a kink in our vacation. When we arrived to pick up our rental car (that we had reserved a week prior), the very rude man in charge laughingly told us how he had just given the van with the options we requested to someone else. It was no laughing matter to us though so we took our business elsewhere. Budget lost a customer, but Avis gained one all because of that man's absolutely inexcusable rude behavior.
- Using Priceline.com is a great way to save money on hotel rooms.
- 2 Star hotels are generally more practical for families than 3 star hotels. We thought we'd really enjoy a night at a beautiful hotel and we did, BUT the nicer hotel didn't have the free breakfast or free internet that is so common in 2 star hotels.
- Always ask if there are any discounts available. We saved $100 on our rental car because we were Sam's Club members and then saved $50 on the resort because we had a Kroger's card. Those were nice surprises!
- Don't start off the vacation exhausted. Trying to leave in the wee hours of the morning just isn't practical for our family.
- It's A LOT of fun to vacation with friends.
- South Carolina is absolutely gorgeous and the ocean is always breathtaking!
- It's always nice to enjoy downtime with my family.
- God provides in wonderful ways. He cares about the little things. And He pursues us with His love.
- The Dodge Grand Caravan Stow-n-Go has extra storage in the floor panel between the front and second row of seats. We umm... didn't realize that until we got home and were cleaning the van to return it!
