28 One
of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing
that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all
the commandments, which is the most important?" 29 "The
most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O
Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and
with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The
second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no
commandment greater than these." 32 "Well
said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying
that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To
love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with
all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more
important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." 34 When
Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are
not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared
ask him any more questions.

Mark 12:28-34

We had quite a bit of
excitement here Friday night. We had one kid spending the night at
a friend's house, two with dad at the gun club, and then I was
almost an hour away scrapbooking with a friend. My husband had
called a few times to ask when I was headed home because he was
concerned about the weather, but I wasn't too nervous. It wasn't
even raining where I was.
-
-
Nonetheless I wrapped
things up and headed for home. On the way home, the lightning show
started. I'm not one to worry too much about the weather, but I
know my husband is. And I know that it's because he feels such a
responsibility to protect all of us. In fact as I was driving home
that night I was thinking about how my husband displays so much of
God's love and protection to me. Sure enough it wasn't long before
the wind started to pick up and I decided to turn the radio station
to one with local weather.

-
I was a little shocked
to hear all that was going on – tornado warnings, 60-70 mph winds,
trees down, and flash flood warnings. Tony called to get an update
on where I was and told me to just stop at the friend's house where
our son was spending the night until the weather cleared a bit. I
was kind of embarrassed, but I knew that it was better to be safe
than sorry. I woke my friend up (they were all sleeping peacefully
in the storm), and stayed there until it looked like the bad weather
had passed. And I headed towards home.

Wowsers was it raining!
The rain was actually blowing sideways with the wind, branches were
down, and I was wondering about how high the creek would be as I got
close to home. Once inside, we all kept an ear on the weather alert
radio while I finished up my scrapbook project.
