• Nov. 6, 2006 - 18 New Hens!

Well Tony and the boys went and picked up the laying hens from the guy down the road. He was getting more eggs than they wanted to fool with and I guess he just didn't want to feed and care for them through the winter. His way of simplifying I suppose and a TOTAL blessing to us. He said that he was getting over a dozen of eggs a day so Woo Hool!

That guy was so generous. Not only did he give us 18 hens, but he also loaned us the cages to bring them home and gave us their feeding trough, which we really like.

We're not exactly sure what kind they are, but he called them Tyson layers so we figure that they must be something like Pearl White Leghorns. There not much to look at, but we can't wait to see if we wake up to fresh eggs tomorrow morning!

Just wanted to thank you for your uplifting message on the old schoolhouse site. I do feel overwhelmed at times now that my oldest is in high school. I just wanted you to know if left me feeling more calm. Actually the quote you placed on there was something that our church youth group sang at one time. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his rightousness, and all these things shall be added unto you, singing allelu.... alleluia.

Ooohhhh - they are so sweet! I'm sad that my Mom & Dad don't have their Rhode Island Red's anymore, but glad they are now with a sweet homeschool family like you guys! Maybe someday we will retire from the army and settle down and be homesteaders like our mentors the Carter's! :)
