Even though we've been on this farm for about a year and a half, we still are amazed at the simple pleasures. Last night I had an Arbonne party with a few friends. The moms and I enjoyed talking about the products and all we are learning about health issues, while the husbands and children played outside.
My husband had built a bonfire and they had a great time roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. While we were inside, we could hear their screams while they played tag. It was just good ol' fashioned fun. We realize that we are truly blessed to have room for the boys to run, play and explore.
My husband even gave the Arbonne consultant a tour of our property on the four wheeler. She grew up on a farm and it brought back fond memories for her. Even though we have lots of dirty clothes and muddy shoes, I hope that we are creating those fond memories for our children.
We aren't located conveniently close to town and we don't have any children close by to play with, but we have lots of time and experiences together. My children love to drive along the property with their dad and look for turkey or deer. We usually have a stray dog or litter that we have to find new homes. We have a wonderful older horse named Billy that entertains us by "talking" to us and wandering freely in our back yard and fields (only while we can supervise him of course!). We have a barn cat named Lucy that isn't very social, but does meow at us sometimes in the evenings and enoys getting scratched as we feed her in the loft of the barn. We even have chickens now - some laying hens and some meatbirds. Not to mention our three dogs and the stray we lovingly call Buddy that likes to stop by for a free meal, water and some attention.
We are so blessed. We never would have dreamed years ago that we would be homeschooling and living out in the country like this. I guess we were headed down the 2 income career city path. But God does have a way of changing things. We are so glad that He has lead us to the homeschooling way of life. We love and enjoy each other so much and look forward to our children growing, instead of dreading the teenage years like we hear so many say. Most of all, we're blessed to see how God is working in our lives and providing for our hearts' desires. He amazes us. |
