Yep, the Carter Crew is going camping with our homeschool support group. We've borrowed stuff from friends, dusted off some camping things we got way back when we only had 1 child and were just sure that we'd enjoy camping together often, and made a list a mile long of things we need to take.
Is it just me or does camping feel a whole lot like moving to you all too? With a family of 5 to feed, I feel like we're going to be packing up a trailer food of food so that we can survive for a whopping 24 hours in the woods. Then a friend mentioned that we should take our own wood for the campfire! What's up with that? Now we're contemplating taking a trailer just so we'll have room for our wood and all of the food. Sounds to me like we're getting dangerously close to renting a U-haul.
We have NEVER, yes I repeat NEVER been camping together as a family. I have friends who love it, but then there are people like JenIg who post things like Camping Should Be Illegal. I definitely feel like I'm getting out of my comfort zone. And comfort is the key word there. What if I'm cold? What if the water there is yucky when I need to brush my teeth? What if I can't sleep well in the tent? What if my 4 year old won't settle down for the night? What if the bathroom is really far away and stinky? What if I don't pack the right clothes? What if the other families pack all this healthy food and we're sitting there with marshmallows, smores, and junk food for every meal?
I've looked up the camping ground website and I don't think we'll be too far from civilization, but I'm just not sure how this all works. So pass me all of your remedial camping tips and say a prayer for us. I'm sure I'll learn a lot this weekend! |
