I have shared before how much I enjoy my Homeschool Country Yahoo group , but did I tell you about how much information these folks share? They are a wealth of knowledge, experience and opinions. I think they could teach JenIg how to prepare for disaster and Harriette how to deal with Avian Flu. Harriette's already on the group, but if any of you haven't joined their group yet, here' the link so that you can join. Be prepared for lots of email or get the digest version like I do!
Anyway, someone wrote in asking for suggestions for flu type illness and what they should keep on hand "just in case". The folks at HS Country had lots to share. I haven't researched any of these so I can't personally say whether they work or not, but just thought I'd share their suggestions and point you to the group if you'd like to ask them some questions or join in the discussion!
Stay Healthy!
I cured myself of pneumonia Jan '99 using this: a gram Vitamin C, 1 calcium tablet (I have never worried about the mgs on this) and 1 Pantothenic Acid tablet
Take all 3 pills every hr. on the hr. for 10 hrs. (usually folks get to feeling so much better they forget to take for the full 10 hrs. but don't!-- kind of like folks do with antibiotics---Don't! Take as recommended)
{{This is not for a daily basis but can be done for a couple of days....Be sure to drink plenty of water and it always good to eat your 5 veggie/fruit recommendations in addition--I believe raw is more healing if you can make yourself.}}
<<>>
Yrs. ago this recommendation +++ raw juice fasting cured a friend of bronchitis--I took her to my M.D. anyway (he was nutritionally minded). He told her that was one of the nicest things he ever heard of someone doing for a friend!

Now my newest research:
1.Coconut oil (most folks want the virgin oil naturally pressed)has antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic and antifungal properties---up to 4 tblsps daily (it helps when applied forathletes foot even! and it smells good)
2.Colloidal/ionized silver is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-parasitic and antifungal as well. I have taken this wheneverneeded for 3 yrs. I am now taking it for preventive reasons this fall! Never had any kind of challenges as the brand I get is made in a pharmaceutical lab!
3.Many medical researchers & 'natural' doctors recommend taking:1 tsp. of baking soda in water daily in order to bring the blood ph into an alkaline condition. They say that most Americans are extremely acidic (like why are there so many antacids on the market?). They say germs, bugs etc. cannot live in an alkaline state. I have been doing this for about3 wks. I believe it is helping my systemic candida.
4.I have taken an herbal tonic called Prime One formulated in the former Soviet Union. It was designed to eliminate excess cortisol (which medical researchers now say does extreme damage to our internal organs and needs to be controlled). I have in my possession blood work up on an HIV patient whose levels were 'in the toilet' so to speak....The viral levels went down with drugs but not much. He was begun on P1 and supplements. Every blood test got better. He is now considered HIV free! But most folks don't believe it.My teen aged friend that had Leukemia is also now cancer free--she had no good results until she began on P1.....
5.Pomegranate is in the news--it is reported to be antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic and antifunfal as well. There is a lot of medical research on it ongoing and reported....(I can email personally anyone that would like the website listings I found--Ican forward them to you.) I am absolutely amazed at what I am learning and hearing! Pomegranates were so important to our Heavenly Father HE had them put uponAaron's high priest hemline (alternated with bells) and into the temple when King David built it. By the way, one of the websites on my list talking about pjuice is from the CDC!
6.There is a new company called Daily Priorities Inc. that just this month (actually to customers in the past 2 1/2 wks) has combined pomegranate juice with Coenzyme 10 (shown to be good for the heart), folic acid, bilberry, blueberry etc. etc. and Prime One is also added into the formula. I have been taking it for 1 week and am impressed with the results I am having....
www.dpitoday.com/sngbrd77 and you find out more about Prime Delight.....
I am very concerned when I hear the world's researchers are expecting a pandemic that they are estimating could kill 5-150 million people from the avian flu. I am currently reading a medical expose` on research in infectious diseases since the 1940's...It is so eye opening how political the research is and how little gets out to the general public (esp. here!)...
Since i am allergic to med bills, have found excellent alternatives to modern medicines drug infested ways. Cayenne pepper will kill just about any bug. Am feeding that and garlic to my livestock now. Vitamin c is very powerful in healing disease.
Well guess I should introduce myself a bit better, am a farm girl who married a city boy, and wants to go back home to the country. I have a shy half acre and have 7 goats, 11 ducks, way too many chickens, 2 dogs, 2 cats and 4 nearly grown up kidlets. Anyway my dad retired a few years back and I inherited his goats, hubby wouldn't tell my daddy no! So it has been an adventure keeping them healthy on my miniscule farm. The Vet bills were too much so I was selling them off when I discovered Pat Coleby's Natural Goat Care. My experience corroberates everything she says. The biggest problem my goats had was copper deficiency. Applying Pat's wisdom cured that.
But I began to realize that maybe I was copper deficient also? Pat says the cause is artificial fertilizers, esp. nitrogen which ties up the minerals in the soil. Copper is critical to absorbing calcium which is critical to keeping the ph up which makes one an unwelcoming host to nasty disease pathogens. An excellent source to access those critical trace minerals is kelp. So I take encapsulated kelp, a good calcium magnesium supplement, flax seed oil, cod liver oil, and when I need it, cayenne pepper, garlic oil, raw apple cider vinegar, evening primrose oil, and-or vitamin C, (these things will heal pnuemonia, better yet prevent it if you will take them ahead of time).
It would behoove us all to grow comfrey also. It is very high in vitamin B. Also potassium. The medical industry HATES comfrey as it is almost magical in it's healing powers, and would cost them soo much $$ if everyone were to start using it. Parsley is another excellent one. Slippery elm bark is also very healing. Both Pat Coleby and Juliette Bairacli Levi say never to inoculate your animals, it shortens their lives. I will not get a flu shot. I know that I feel much better and have more energy when I take the supplements listed above.in a nutshell
I understand that both garlic and vinegar have sulpher in them which is a lot of what makes them so potent, Sulpher works with copper to make the little disease beasties unwelcome. Good stuff.
I've used this with success. As soon as you start to feel sick you take a tablespoon. It tastes really gross at first but after a while its not so bad.
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper 1 1\2 teaspoons sea salt 1 cup boiled water 1 cup apple cider vinegar
Add water to salt and pepper.Once cooled add vinegar.Store in a glass jar with plastic covering the lid if its metal.Shake it up with each use.Take every couple hours.
Heres some other recipes I haven't tried but would be good to have.
Vinegar of Four Thieves
2 quarts apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons lavender 2 tablespoon rosemary '' sage '' wormwood '' rue '' mint 4 garlic buds
Combine dried herbs(except garlic) and steep in vinegar in the sun for 2 weeks.Strained rebottle in glass container.Add garlic.Steep several days.Stain out.Melt paraffin wax around lid to preserve contents or add 4 ounces of glycerin for preservation.
The reason its called 4 thieves is their is a legend that says 4 thieves had safely ransacked empty plague ridden houses during the bubonic plague. They were caught and brought before the courts who wondered why they haven't been affected. They said they would drink this vinegar and wash with it every couple hours.I'm don't know if it's true.If you were going to wash with it you should dilute it first. The dose is 1-3 teaspoons in water every couple hours during anepidemic.
Modern Antiepidemic Vinegar
1quart apple cider vinegar 1 pound garlic buds for 8 ounces expressed juice 8 ounces comfrey root 4 ounces oat bark 4 ounces marshmallow root '' mullein flowers '' rosemary flowers '' lavender flowers '' wormwood '' blackwalnut leaves About 12 ounces glycerin
Make separate teas of each herbs.First soak each ounce of herb in clean spring water. After about half a day, simmer each herb separately for ten minutes.Steep for half an hour.Strain out simmer again and reduce each herb so that it is concentrated.Press garlic into 8 ounces juice.Add glycerin to preserve it.Place in large glass bottle.Label.You may want to add paraffin for additional preservation power. Dosage 1-3 teaspoons during epidemicsor 1 teaspoon per hour if a family member is ill.dilute if too strong to take.
Cinnamon Flu-Preventative
Add 5 drops of true cinnamon oil to a tablespoon of water and use several times a day at the very onset of a flu or after you think you've been exposed.Once you've been affected it has no effect.
I've also used Oil of Oregano for stomach problems. It can get rid of ecoli.Available at health food stores.
Antinausea
3 small sticks of cinnamon bark 1 tablespoon cardamom seed 1 tablespoon nutmeg
grind together in coffee grinder.Use 1/4teaspoon per hot tea or a pinch per cup for a child.
Another good product to have is Colloidal Silver. It fights most infections effectively.I've given this to my children with excellent results. Its a natural antibiotic.
I have to add that you have to be very careful with herbs. I got the receipes from Herbal Medicine by Dian Dincin Buchman.
I put garlic & ginger in my homemade chicken soup. you can add it to canned stock & simmer for a while too. Garlic is natures antibiotic & the ginger opens up your sinusus. Thyme is also good for breathing...no wonder the chicken soup works so well. Hot tea with honey & ginger is good too. I made a flu supply run today after reading about flu preparedness. Apple Juice, 7-up, Ensure, applesauce, disenfentant wipes, Emergen-C, Tylenol, Advil, Triaminic cold & cough for the kids, tums, chicken broth & top ramen, saltine crackers, I put the stuff aside on a special shelf & told the kids to stay out. :-)
