Lessons Learned On the Farm

• Oct. 1, 2007 - What a Fabulous Trip!

Well, the camping trip was even BETTER than I expected! We actually had so much we stayed an extra day. Putting up the tent wasn't THAT hard and we really liked our tent - niiiiice and roomy.

Before.....

After....

Even Mary Jane went along for the trip

Campgrounds are SO much nicer than I remember them being as kids! This one had a GREAT little playground where Jon spent most of his time. We got a space right next to it so I was able to watch him play right from my comfy chair at the campsite. Jake spent most of his time on his bike with a newfound friend.

We were so surprised at how many people are campground *regulars*, they just camp ALL the time. They'll come up and introduce themselves - "Hi, we're Bob and Betty Sue from slot 27. It's nice to meet you all. What a BIG dog!"

This particular state park also just happened to be hosting a geocaching event, so Joe went and did a little geocaching with a friend.

It also had a cute, cute, cute (did I say cute?!) little miniature golf course. It was so retro with the little animals and curves, dips, and obstacles.

Here is just one of the cute little creatures and another little cutie just happened to be in the picture!

My favorite golfers....
not sure what Jake was thinking...
And then finally, a picture of
Mary Jane by the campfire

Yes, you heard that right - campfire! The burn ban was lifted and we were able to enjoy many roasted marshmallows and hotdogs. Of course, we were afraid that we were going to set the park on fire when our cookstove sprung a leak and the fuel took the whole thing up in flames. That was boo scary, but we got it out and the camping fun went on without incident.

Let me just tell y'all. God outdid Himself with the perfect camping weather - not too hot, not too cold - it was juuuuust right! And we were all really nice and cozy with our air mattresses, quilts and sleeping bags. It was SUCH good sleeping weather - Jon and I went to sleep really early the first night and then the second night we stayed up a little later, but then all crashed out as soon as our heads hit the pillows. It was just a wonderful, refreshing vacation time together.

The other animals all did well while we were gone. I stocked up on automatic feeders for the chickens, dogs, and cats while we were gone and made sure that the horse was in a perfect spot for grazing. Everyone had plenty of fresh water and seemed no worse for the wear when we returned home.

It was a good time folks, I'm telling ya. A REALLY good time.

I am so glad y'all had a great time!!!

It seems much easier than the wilderness camping I did this time last year. We didn't even have running water-- and with 20 kids, that is a problem!

That sounds so wonderful. I'm glad you all had so much fun. I LOVE camping this time of year, although you're more ambitious than me to be in a tent--we have a pop-up. There's not much like sitting by a campfire in the perfect campfire weather.
