Lessons Learned On the Farm

• Nov. 27, 2007 - November 27, 1987

I was cruising the Kroger parking lot in Paris,TN with 3 of my buddies. We stopped to talk to my friend Jennifer's cousin Tracy. Her friends, Tony and Mark, just happened to be there that night too.

We all talked for awhile. Then the subject of the new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, The Running Man, came up. Tony asked me to go and after some coaxing by my friends I went with him and his buddy Mark. The movie was pretty good, but more than that I was just enjoying getting to know Tony better. We had met a few times and talked a little bit at different opportunities the year before, but this was my first chance at really *getting to know* him. I was 15 and he was 17.

After the movie he took me back to the Dairy Queen so that my friends could take me back to my house. He asked for my number, gave me a quick hug, and told me what a great time he had. I actually kind of had that floating on a cloud kind of feeling. He was truly one of the nicest, funniest, most considerate boys I had ever met. My mother had once said after meeting Tony at the Wal-Mart one day  - "Why don't you go out with someone like him?"

Sure enough, he called the very next day and we've pretty much been together ever since.

Here we are riding the 4 wheeler out at my dad's woods lot.
I figured if he still thought I was cute covered in mud, he was a keeper.
Little did we know that 20 years later we'd be living on 40 acres with 3 boys who like 4 wheelin too!

This was one year later on our first anniversary.

I wowed him with probably my most considerate present ever (This year he's getting a blog entry.) - a dozen small gifts all wrapped individually and then put in one huge box with rocks and the such.  Each gift had a little note. I should have been a scrapbooker. I can't remember them all. One was a toy phone - for all the time we spent on the phone together.(I can't ever act like I didn't always know he liked to talk on the phone.) Another was a wallet and said, "For all the money you spend on me." Another was a rock and said "For the rock you're going to give me someday."(A bit presumptuous I suppose, but we were pretty sure early on that we'd be Mr. & Mrs. someday.)  We can't remember the other gifts, but we remember they were cute. Young people write things down. You too will be old & forgetful someday.

The gifts must have worked. Less than 2 years later, we got hitched.

Two years later -
ba da bing, ba da boom
We became Mom & Dad.
My first Mother's Day!
Jackson, TN

Here we are 4 years later when Jake was just a few weeks old enjoying a day at the St. Louis Zoo.

And then about 5 years later, Jon made 3 and were yet again in a new state - Kentucky!
Can you tell Jon was eating a lot of orange baby food?
And hey, that's the same outfit Joe wore in the first picture. I've got a picture of Jake in that outfit too,
but Tony's not in it and this post is about him, not the boys.

And here we are now. One big happy family.
Still having fun. Still having a lot of laughs.

I am blessed beyond measure.
In the wise words of Shania Twain, he's Still the One!

Still the One - Shania Twain
When I first saw you, I saw love.
And the first time you touched me, I felt love.
And after all this time, you're still the one I love.)

Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday

Bridge:
They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong

Chorus:
(You're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night

Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'

I'm so glad we made it
Look how far we've come my baby...

Awww... I remember the day that David and I first met as well. And you are absolutely right, writing it down is a MUST! All those things that you thought you'd never forget... well, they get mixed up with other memories or completely forgotten!
