Lessons Learned on the Farm

• Jul. 29, 2008 - Our trip to Durango

Well if you haven't guessed already, we spent this past week in Colorado - lovely, glorious, magnificent, awe-inspiring, not-too-hot, not-too-cold Colorado.

Getting there wasn't easy. Colorado is a long, loooooong way from Kentucky, but it certainly was worth it.

We started off on a 6 a.m. flight (I know, I know, WHAT was I thinking?) from Nashville to Denver. It was the very first flight for our two youngest and they both absolutely loved it and gave it two thumbs up!

Here's Jon with Daddy.

And me with the two big guys!

We flew Frontier Airlines and would definitely give them two thumbs up. The seats were all nice and comfy and the TVS on the airplane really helped to pass the time. Our flights stayed on time and our luggage arrived all together. It was a good thing - a very good thing.

Once we got there, Tony picked up our rental car from Thrifty. The jury is still out on whether we would recommend them or not. They DID give us a nice upgrade to a full size SUV and we got a great price because I reserved the truck online, but they just about wore Tony out trying to upsell him on various plans and features.

And we were really, really ready to get on the road. Because views like this were just waiting on us!

And this...

I think we took these driving through the Rio Grande National Forest.

We did let the boys get out and stretch their legs every so often though. Here they are crossing the Continental Divide into the San Juan National Forest!

Because really, sometimes you just have to get out and soak up all of this Colorado goodness!

And this waterfall, Treasure Falls, is truly a treasure.
I'm sorry that I didn't get to visit with some of you all while I was visiting your fine state, but I had lots of oooohing and aaaahing to do. And picture taking. I've got plenty of other pictures to share... if I can just find my Easy Share cord.

More pictures to come....

We honeymooned 60 miles east of Durango (we flew into Durango) in Pagosa Springs (where the hot springs are) and LOVED it. We so desperately want to move there!!!!

It might seem like a weird question, but...why Durango and not Denver? The reason that I ask is because I know that Durango can be hard to get to.
What drew you to Durango??
Thanks!

The view looks so pretty there in the picture I can't imagine what it would be like in person! But as sad as it is a vacation always has to come to an end, but I'm sure that it was a good "get-a-way" but even better to get home. (there's nothing else like it).
Tell everyone that I said Hi! See Yah!!! ~Allison

I'm so glad that you all are enjoying the pictures and I really appreciate you all taking the time to comment.

Eleanor - Yes, it was a GREAT time for our family!

Cindy - If you get to go, will you take me too? I'll pack light - I promise!

Suffgrace - I'm so glad that you enjoyed the music while visiting here. :O)

Nikowa - We drove through Pagosa Springs on our way to Durango and my,oh my, it's gorgeous too. I would have LOVED to soak in their hot springs. You lucky duck!

Brumbemom - Don't be jealous. Just plan a trip there - and then take me, ok?!

Heidi - So glad you like the people pictures. I usually prefer them too, but wowzers with scenery like that, it's hard to fit it all in. Plus my kids kept squinting into the sunshine. I may do a whole entry just with goofy faces. ha!

Anonymous - We went to Durango mainly because we were visiting with a friend there. Denver might be a great place too, but all I saw of it was the city/interstate and it couldn't compare with the beauty of the mountains, waterfalls, lush green valleys, and rushing rivers that we enjoyed in Durango.

Allison - You're right, it was a wonderful getaway and we are very happy to be back to home-sweet-home. I SO missed our animals. Thanks for helping to take care of them!
