I am a director of our homeschool co-op. The other director and I have this great idea that we'll sort of use a unit study approach for the art & Spanish classes. The classes are for kids age 6 - 11. Our art teacher is great and could do a little instruction about (let's say) frogs, then let them do an art project relating to frogs and then the Spanish teacher could work the vocabulary around frogs. Then by the end of the semester the kids could display their artwork and maybe sing a Spanish song about frogs or recite a poem in Spanish about frogs. You get the general idea.
So... each of the classes lasts about 45 minutes and we meet once a week for 12 weeks. I'm not one to reinvent the wheel. If you have some suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Even if you can recommend a book, I'd appreciate that too. I may even already have some materials , but you know how it is, sometimes I just can't seem to put my hand on them when I really want them.
Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing your ideas! |

Now about your co-op...no suggestions, but I think it's a GREAT idea. I'll be printing it out to share with 3 friends who are coming over next week to plan for fall. We are trying to solidify a local homeschool enrichment co-op. Last year was ok, but pretty hit and miss. It's pretty tough to find parents to commit to reliable attendance and input. It does get extremely frustrating. So, this year we are asking for an upfront commitment with a specific list of "jobs" to fill. If you don't work, your kids don't attend. If you sign up to attend, you follow through. It's hard for any of us 4 to take the "tough" role, but I think we're ready to now! Good luck to you!
