• Sep. 6, 2007 - Earn Money With Your Blog - Button Alert!

Do you have a button inviting people to subscribe to TOS and receive 19 free gifts on your blog? Well it's time to change it!

TOS has an even better offer now - Buy a one-year subscription for $25 and receive 25 free gifts! And we have some pretty new banners and buttons that you all can use. Just pick which fits your blog the best! Need help getting a button on your blog? Read this entry.

Now, you want to know how you can earn money with your blog?

It's quick and easy and if someone clicks through your banner to buy a subscription, you earn a percentage of the sale! You can even earn money on other items they buy through the Schoolhouse Store. It's really a great deal.

PS - Yes, I know that I still have an old button on my sidebar. Everytime I try to change anything on my sidebar, it throws my template all crazy off. I need template help.... sigh....

• Jan. 15, 2007 - My Winter TOS Just Arrived

Well it's a rainy day here in Kentucky, the temperature is finally starting to drop, and I just got my box of the Winter issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. I have about 20 different things that I need to be doing, but I took a few minutes to do a quick browse through it and I was so blessed.

You all will jut HAVE to read JenIg's editorial, The Unlovables, in this issue. Jen shares her testimony in the article and will remind you to just keep praying for those folks who are making cruddy decisions even when they seem determined to follow the wrong path.  That article was just so encouraging to me and reminded me to not get discouraged and give up hope. People may not always change when you want them to, but you just can't quit praying and give up hope. There is hope. God can reach the most thick-skinned, unlovable folks and transform their lives.  What a wonderful reminder.

And there are lots of other wonderful articles in there too. Stuff about homeschool support groups, a great article from Dr. Brian Ray (the homeschool research guy), recipes for making your own natural cleaners, and so much more. Hey there is even a great article in there about hunting that the guys will enjoy too. Oh and a BUNCH of our blogging buddies have articles in there too.

You definitely won't want to miss this issue.  It may still be a couple of weeks before you get your regular subscription, but hang in there. It's definitely worth the wait. And maybe I can tease you all some more later. Right now I've got to get back to work!

• Sep. 7, 2006 - Gena's on the Radio

Well at least she WAS.  I mean it was hours ago, but she just now spilled the beans and let us all know about it.  She got all flustered because her phone rang and then she got all out of breath trying to get away from the phone.  How's that for real-life?!

I think she did a GREAT job though.  She is so friendly and just loves to talk homeschooling and that totally comes through... even if she is a little winded.

Listen online and hear for yourself.  And then go tell Gena what a great job she did.

Warning... it is an hour long.  Better listen while you're folding laundry or something!

• Jul. 1, 2006 - One of my new favorite bloggers...

Well my very own son has finally signed up for his own blog. Once you go see it, you'll immediately know what his favorite hobby is.  Our friend, Heidi, helped us work with a photo program to customize his template some and he still wants to do more to it, but he learned a lesson all of you can relate to I bet - you can't do anything with a template in "just a few minutes".

So if you've got "just a few minutes", go on over to his blog and welcome him to HSB.  I think he's starting to see why I love blogging.  And I think his younger brother is starting to catch the fever too.  We may have another blogger joining the family before long!

• Jun. 30, 2006 - Win a $100 Gift Certificate!!!

Win a $100 Gift Certificate to the Schoolhouse Store!

We Want Your Input!

The Schoolhouse Store needs you! We’ve been adding great new products like crazy! (And every one of them ships FREE!) Each product is complete with an official detailed review from the staff of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. But we want to hear from you, too! The more information our customers have, the better choices they can make.

Browse the store for a favorite product and leave an honest review letting other customers know what exactly you liked or didn’t like about it and what makes it special.  Appropriate language and honest reviews only, please.  For each completed review you will be entered into our random drawing for a $100 Schoolhouse Store gift certificate!

To leave a review simply go to the product page of the item you’re reviewing and scroll to the bottom. Click on “review” and then “write reviews”. Be sure to browse around and see what others had to say as well!

~Note from Nancy- You actually have to click on the picture of the product over in the Review box on the right.  Then it will show you if there is a review.  Below that on the right, click where it says "Write Reviews". You'll have to register, but it only takes a second and then you can enter your review.  Your review won't be immediately posted because they have to go through the system first, but when you submit your review THAT is what enters you in the contest.~

What’s not to like about that? We can’t wait to read what you have to say!

The drawing will take place on September 1, 2006 so check back regularly to see all the new products you can review!  One review per household per, product.  Unfortunately, employees, staff and independent contractors of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, LLC are not eligible for the contest, but are more than welcome to leave a review.

• May. 30, 2006 - Do you get TOS?

Do you have your very own subscription to TOS?  If you don't, now is definitely the time to subscribe.  It truly is a great way to invest in your homeschooling.  You can show it off to your skeptical friends and family to show them that homeschooling is not stuck in the dark ages.  They'll be impressed when they see the resources available to homeschoolers these days, as well as the success stories of homeschool graduates.

Besides that you'll get plenty of encouragement and inspiration.  I love TOS because they don't try to make all homeschool families look alike.  They respect that we have different lifestyles and interests, but that we share the same conviction to educate our children.

I can remember when I first started homeschooling.  The only homeschool magazines that I saw featured very large families, wearing dresses and color coordinating outfits.  I struggled with feeling like I would never fit in or measure up to those families.  But when I look in TOS, I see families of all different sizes, wearing all different styles of clothes, etc...

There was one time when I read "that other" magazine, that I nearly threw it across the room.  It had one of those large families and they were truly doing the 15 minute intervals.  Everything was just too perfect.

7:00 - 7:05 Children dressed, beds made & seated at table

7:05 - 7:20 Father leads devotions while I serve nutritious homemade breakfast

7:20 - 7:25 Breakfast clean up. Children begin studies

BLECH!  I couldn't stand it and honestly I couldn't even believe it.  We can't get our beds made, dressed and to the table in 5 minutes.  Much less if there were 10 children in the house.  And cleaning up in 5 minutes - that's an admirable goal, but not happening at this house.

But with TOS, the families featured seem more real, more approachable.  I find myself so often wishing that I was in a support group with some of these folks.  I think they would be great fun!

And I love how they not only tell you what they are doing, but why and how.  That's such a big part of things for me.  I want to know why people choose their educational approach and how they work it into their family life.

So, take a look at our current promo. You get the 19 free gifts whether you are subscribing for the first time or whether you're renewing.  And we want you to subscribe.(Oh and if you subscribe by clicking through that link in my sidebar - the picture of the woman reading the magazine, I get credit for the sale!)

Hey what better way to celebrate TOS's 5th birthday than by getting your own subscription. Gena & Jen will love that a lot more than a dancing carrot.

You know how ebay (the loser) has decided to quit allowing the sale of Teacher's Editions on their site?  Well Sagerats decided that instead of just taking our little red wagons and going home, we should just keep our little red wagons right here at HSB to play.  She's holding a contest to promote The HSB County Fair where you can buy and sell your curriculum FOR FREE!

Copy and paste the following in your blog and then post a comment on her blog letting her know that you're joining in the fun.  Then she'll pick a lucky winner on May 15th.  Let the games begin!

Sagerats is having a contest to help promote The HSB County Fair where you can sell and buy used curriculum, EVEN teacher edition's/guide's/answer key's, with no host percentage fees!
