How Time Flies

Yesterday, we had the first snowfall of the year.   It was only a couple of flakes, but it made me realize how fast the year has gone.  It's already mid-November!  The fall quarter at the college ends next week!  It seems like just yesterday I took my midterms (which I got very good scores on...PTL).  In 6 more days it will be Thanksgiving.  Is 2007 really almost over?  Yet another year, come and gone in the blink of an eye.

There are so many things to say that I hardly know what to write about.  I could tell you about the STACKS of books I've been reading, or the fun semester of co-op that just finished last week, or the amazing things that have been going on at our youth group, or my thoughts on the primary elections, but there's just so much that it's overwhelming. ;-)

I guess I can tell you that my parents finally decided on a girl's name for the baby - Maria Joan.  The middle name is for St. Joan of Arc and the first name is for Mary (of course) and my mom's grandmother.  For some reason, we can't come up with any good boy names, but Mom is fairly certain that this baby will be a girl, so she isn't worried.

I think I told you all that I am playing the keyboard for the monthly youth masses at our parish.  Last week I totally butchered one of the hymns, but hopefully I'll get better.  I don't play very well when under pressure.  I really want to stick with this, though, because I feel that it's a ministry that God is calling me to.  He gave me the ability to play the piano and He even provided an organ for me to practice on.  Someday, I hope to be a church organist, so I am trying to prepare myself as best I can right now.

It seems like so many people are leaving HSB -  either going to blogger, getting their own URL, spending more time on facebook or myspace, etc.  I have been spending WAY more time on xanga, just because I like the setup so much better and I have so many close friends there.  I will probably quit this blog sometime, but I don't plan to do it right now.  I'm going to hold out for a bit longer and see what happens.

Mrs. Dixon and Amanda are going to be leading a reading and discussion of The Hedge of Thorns by John Hatchard over at the HSB Literary Club.  My copy is on its way through inter-library loan...all the way from Oklahoma!!  I may not get it in time, but at least I will be able to read it with everyone and join the discussion.  There is still a bit of time to find a copy before next Wednesday!

If you aren't able to do that, look forward to some updates on The Society of Avid Young Readers Blog.  I offered to help Cassy manage the blog and she agreed to make me "assistant manager" since she has so little time to update. ;-)  We are planning to read The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis.  I have some cool ideas for the upcoming year.  Stay tuned!

Oh, and I'm going to put in a quick plug for Ben over at God First, Knowledge Second.  He is doing a survey for a school project.  It only takes a couple minutes to complete!

That is all. ;-)  Hopefully it won't be too long until I update again, but until then-

Don't worry about the book... the chapters are short so even if you get it a little late you will be able to catch up quickly. Mine just arrived yesterday and I read the first three chapters in less than an hour.

Thanks for coming by...It's been ages since we've talked but we both have busy lives, so we understand each other. I see my dear Kelsey left you a comment too...She's been completely immersed in her Biblical studies that she's been doing...the one by Danya and her mom. I'm very proud of who she's becoming and that she's chosen to be a follower of Christ! We, too, will be leaving HSB before long...we've long had our own URL and have been designing them during free time. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well. Keep in touch too...

Oooh, Maria Joan is a pretty name. Speaking of Joan of Arc, I really liked Mark Twain's book about her. But that's neither here nor there.

I'm looking forward to some things getting started at the SAYR. I'm glad we're doing The Magician's Nephew.

You pretty much expressed my thoughts on The Count of Monte Cristo. The book was really good, but I kind of wished for a different ending. It made for really good thinking material though.

Edited to say: Aha! I can see from your LibraryThing sidebar that you own Joan of Arc by Mark Twain.

Hello Sylvia, sorry it has taken me a bit to get back to you. I've been absent for the past few days. I will reply to your last comment here.

RYC: Same here. This is really positive leaning.

I agree, that is just a guide that we have been given to follow. God gave it to us so our prayers would be better.

Try saying "holy, holy, holy" over and over again. For real, just say it 100 times or so. If you say it over and over again is becomes a meaningless repetition.

It is kinda' like brushing you teeth. If we get into the habit of doing something it isn't really a thing that we have to put a lot of thought into. We just go to the bathroom and brush our teeth. When we go to God it should be an exhilarating experience, not just a routine thing that we do with the same prayer over and over again.

As for the creatures in revelations we don't even understand a fraction of what goes on in heaven. We only have snap shots of what happens through the Bible. Who knows if that is all the creatures say.

It would be a safe comparison to say that everything God says is in the Bible

God knows SO much more! He has a HUGE storehouse of infinite information. Our minds couldn't comprehend it even if we had access to it.

Praying the Psalms is great, but it has its place. Coming to God should be a personal experience that we can put into our own words! God wants to be our teacher, king and guide, but he also wants to be our friend.

I wouldn't be much of a friend to you if I only quoted what other people had written, right? We need to get more personal then that. We need to come to God with our own feelings.

Don't worry - you're not the only one who butchers keyboard songs when under pressure:)

I've always wanted to read the Hunchback Of Notre Dame but I haven't had the chance yet. Hopefully I will someday. I always like to hear people's opinions on books so thanks for sharing.

Hi! I've been really busy lately, so I haven't got around to replying to all the comments. Sorry.

I know what you mean about nervousness under pressure. I always get nervous. I think this time I am going to be especially nervous, because I am playing a fairly difficult piece. (M. Clementi's Sonatina op. 36 no.1 1st movement.) I am playing it for Thanksgiving and we are going to have lots of company! Oh dear!

But it must be harder for you, playing with such a large audience! I am sure you will do great, though!

By the way, have you ever read the original 'Beowulf' poem? I just finished it. (I read the Frederick Rebsamen translation.)

- Sincerely Raora

The year certainly has past and fast. It almost makes me sad. I keep remembering back on this year. So many wonderful memories have been made, but also hard ones. We had LucyLillie this year and that was a major blessing! She is crawling now and starting to teeth. *weeps* our little girl is growing up. *sobs*.

Anyway, I like the name Maria Joan. How cute. I hope you have a girl. Then Luc, Sus (Auntie Gena's baby), and Maria can all have a yearly tea-party, be all the same age, and the best of friends! lol, ok, ok, I will be realistic! lol

Yes, quite a few people are leaving HSB. The sever is a lot busier than it used to be (mainly because kids keep getting new blogs and taking more space), and others because of popularity and others because having your own url is easier and has a lot more options. I am one of these people. lol

I will hopefully have it setup soon. my tech guy is helping me with that and the template since it's css and not html. sigh. Another thing I am going to learn. lol

ooohh the MN? I love that book. ONe f the best, I think. I should very much like them to make a movie out of that one. Wouldn't that be swell?

Ok, well, I am glad you updated. I hope all is well with your family. ; )

Love,
Jocelyn

Yes, see it. you will learn a lot from it. There is so much history and power of how one man can make a difference in the world. I can only say WOW.

I think I have heard of it, but haven't seen it. What is it about? Have you seen it? You have to tell me all about it!

Hello!
Ah, Maria Joan is a beautiful name!! Know that I'm praying for your new baby sibling and your Mother! This year has gone by to fast, but time flies when you're having fun. And I've had a great year. Though I've had several rough patches, I've managed to get through them with God, Prayer, Family and Friends. I've gone through surgery, twice in the past month including the horror of losing a best friend in a car accident. October, I'm afraid is no longer one of my favorite months.
With Christmas just around the corner and Thanksgiving behind us I hope that you and your family have a great rest of the year!!

Love,
Arwengirl

Yes, I think I will be able to find a computer at a reasonable price.
I read The Magician Nephew earlier this year, and I don’t think I can read it again right now. I have a ton of books I am reading for school not to mention the fiction ones and the HSBLC one. hahaha thanks for asking tho!!
Did you hear the news?? Come by my blog and see.

Nov. 30, 2007 - Hello!

Thanks for commenting - I know what you mean about not wanting to spend your money!

As for tithe... we have a jar in the cupboard where we put tithe - we then give it to different ministries (TOS, NGJ) - this past year we spent $200 on the good and evil books and past them out to kids at the library and sent them to different families. We also gave the Suarez's gas money when they drove up and so on. Just different ways to bless people in the Lord's name.

And I included the SAYR link on my post. ; )

Jocelyn

I have to agree with you, the year has gone by rather quickly. I am kind of glad, and kind of sad.

As to playing the organ at church, keep it up! It is so cool that you can play the piano well enough to do that.

I am praying for you,
