The Seattle Mariners need to act quickly before another team does. The single season hit king Ichiro Suzuki’s contract with the Mariners will end by the end of the 2007 season. Suzuki has had a perfect career since he started playing in majors. He has only played six seasons and has better records than some players that have played 15 seasons. He is a six time All-star, a six time AL Golden Glove outfielder and has hit over 200 hits each season! In 2004 is when Ichiro broke Hall of Famer George Sisler’s single season hit record of 257 hits which was set in 1920! Ichiro hit a total of 262 hits that season. Ichiro also became the fastest player ever to reach 1000 career hits. The Mariners general manager says It's their top priority to try and extend his contract. Ichiro is currently in his home land Japan preparing for the 2007 season and will fly to Peoria Arizona on February 19th to begin spring training with the Mariners.
The Cubs are looking to be a very aggressive team this year. My 2nd last entry I talked about the Cubs signing Alfonso Soriano and now yesterday on January 24th they have signed a contract with Mets left handed power hitter Cliff Floyd! They still haven’t agreed if it’s going to be a one year deal or a two year deal. They have already agreed to one year but now they’re discussing about extending the contract to 2 years. If it remains 1 year Floyd’s salary will be 3 million dollars if it is extended to 2 years his salary will be 17.5 million dollars. Boy I sure would like to know were teams get this money. This is what the Cubs Lineup is probably going to look like.
Leading off: Alfonso Soriano
Next Batter: Mark DeRosa
Third Batter: Cliff Floyd
Clean Up Hitter: Derrek Lee
Fifth Batter: Aramis Ramirez
Sixth Batter: Cesar Izturis
Seventh Batter: Jacque Jones
Eighth Batter: Michael Barrett
Ninth batter: Pitcher
Plus this is their pitching Rotation: ROTY Kerry Wood, All-Stars Mark Prior, and Ted Lilly, and finally Carlos Zambrano who struck out 210 batters last season which was the most out of their pitching roster.
Here are more players who have moved to new teams:
D-backs outfielder Luis Gonzalez is now on the LA Dodgers.
Dodger’s center fielder Kenny Loften became a free Agent after the 2006 season and went to the Texas Rangers.
Former Cub center fielder Juan Pierre is with the LA Dodgers filling in Kenny Lofton’s position.
And Finally Rangers “Acrobat” outfielder Gary Matthews Jr has signed with the LA Angels.
