Are you there God? It's me a 1st year homeschooling mom...

Jan. 8, 2008 - A change in the gameplan...

Okay, I have to admit that my first four months of homeschooling have really been quite good. One thing I'm not happy with is the amount of seat work my 6-year old is doing... I know part of it is just me needing to break away from my public school teacher ways. I love workbooks and handout, but my ds does not. I want to make sure that he enjoys this year and that it sets the tone for future learning endeavors.

Therefore, I'm going back to Five in a Row (FIAR). I've really gotten away from it this school year because it seems we have so much other stuff to do. However, truth be told he LOVES learning the FIAR way. He can still remember the majority of what he learned last Spring while we were using FIAR regularly.

I will admit that I am a teensy bit hesitant that FIAR may not be enough (even when supplemented with Happy Phonics/Explode the Code and MUS), and that's why I have not been using it regularly. But, he really seems to pick up and retain the info from books and lessons! I have Vol. 1, 2 and 3 as well as the cookbook and the Bible study (not sure of the exact title). So, it's back to FIAR for us. I'm going to the public library site now to see what winter theme books might be available...
