We just arrived home after two weeks of being on the road. Well, kinda!
The kids and I drove up to Iowa to pick up my husband two weeks ago Tuesday. We drove to Michigan to visit some old friends and then arrived in Jersey Thursday evening. Each night was spent in a hotel room, we may love driving on the road, but not sleeping in the car in the process. ;)
Friday we spent doing laundry, visiting my dad at his work--that was fun for the kids! He was shocked to see me walking towards him in the warehouse. We then visited with my mom in the afternoon before heading to my in-laws house for dinner.
Saturday was my mom's graduation party. She received her associates in business management in May and she wanted a HUGE party. All my siblings and their families were there for her. There were 80 people at her party. Goodness! But everyone had fun and there was plenty of food. All the kids enjoyed being with their cousins again. My kids and my sisters kids are all close together, age wise and friendship. =)
Later that night, (sounds like a suspense story) my sister, bro-in-law, brother, and friend followed my husband and I to my in-laws home for some friendly Texas Hold 'em. (No money, just chips.) My mommy-in-law had a blast with us there. She said it was nice to play and talk with my family. (I'm VERY blessed that my family and Shannon's family get along good without faking it.)
Sunday we split it between the two houses as it was Father's day. It's a big whopping mile from door to door, so it wasn't bad for us. Especially since we had to bring Celia her bag--she spent the night at my parents house to spend more time with her friend who lives across the street from them. Sunday night, my husband took my brother, Steve, and me to Atlantic City. Mike and Stever are from Texas and had never gone before so "we" took them for a few hours. We played, had dinner, talked and left. **Though it might look like we are a gambling group, we are not. It's the one game we can all play and lose and not care while we talk with eachother.**
Monday we spent getting ready for our return journey home. Tuesday we met Shannon's uncle for lunch before leaving town. We spent the night in Ohio and then drove to Iowa on Wednesday. We stopped at Ulyssess S. Grant's house and an observation tower near his house. That is something you do not want to do after being in the car for nine hours--climbing 60 feet to get to the top of a 75 foot tall tower. Ugh! But it was beautiful!
Thursday morning I took Shannon to his truck. I then took the kids to the movie site of Field of Dreams before lunch. It's a whopping 3 miles from Shannon's terminal so its no biggie! After lunch I took the kids to the hotel's pool. We swam for a few hours before Shannon called to let me know he would be in town for dinner. The kids thought it was neat that he went to work and then came back for dinner. Can you tell he hasn't come home for dinner after working all day in a while? Gotta love truck driving! Right. I'll be happy when he can get a more local driving job.
Back to my vacation...We left Friday morning about 8-ish to head home. We arrived home about 5. And I had to do what one would expect to do after being gone for so long...food shopping! Whoo hoo! :{
But we had a great time and that is all that counts! |
