Nov. 28, 2009 - A Great Thanksgiving Week

We didn't just take off for Thanksgiving Day, we took the entire week . It was great! Each of us had some me time, as my children call it. We each had the time to choose what we would desire to do. I chose reading, cooking, some cleaning, & shopping for the holidays. I didn't get quite as much reading time as I would have desired, but I'm thankful for the time I got. My children chose play, Christmas movies (I chose these too),& some reading. After having a break, we all should be ready for a full load next week.

I plan to put my tree up on Monday lord's willing. We are going to decorate it different this year. We are thinking about going with blue, white, & silver this year. We'll see how that goes.

My kitchen table is filled with Christmas gifts right now. Isn't that something. I don't even have a tree up yet. I decided to wrap my gifts a little at a time this year instead of doing them all at once like I usually do them so I have already started on them.

We will also be baking on Monday. We have been preparing our Amish Friendship bread starter & Monday is our baking day for it. We love the bread. If you haven't tried this bread you should. Although, it takes 10 days to make it. Not much to do in the10 days just waiting the 10 days to bake.

I plan to have a book give away on my blog so tell all of your friends to stop by & sign up for the give away. All you have to do is post a comment whether you are on my friend's list or not. As soon as I get my DH to put a picture of the book on my blog I'll start the give away.

I suppose I have rambled enough tonight so I'd better go. Until next time, Traci

Nov. 28, 2009 - How Often Do You Clean Under Your Sofa?

I have a difference of opinion with someone I know...

I clean under my couch about ONCE a week and when I do I am amazed at what is under there. Missing slippers, dirt, shoes, socks, pens- you name it. The person I know, that has a different opinion than I do, thinks that we have to know when stuff disappears under there.

So am I wrong? Take my ANONYMOUS POLL and maybe I won't feel so bad.

How often do you clean under your couch?
Every day.
Several times a week.
Once a week.
Twice a month.
Once a month.
Once every few months.
Once a year.
Never... (unless I move, or move it!)
Only if I have a holiday or special occasion coming up.

Take my poll!
What do you find under the couch?
Nothing. It stays clean.
It is minimally dirty. A bit of dust. Maybe a pen.
Moderately dirty. A shoe, a sock, a pen, some dirt.
It is dirty! Dirt, socks, toys, and all kinds of stuff.
A bomb went off under my couch and I didn't even know it. Call FEMA because it is a disaster area.

Nov. 26, 2009 - Happy Thanksgiving

What am I thankful for?

My husband!

He has had a really hard time this year... it started off with a herniated disc (however, it was a blessing that he ended up in Mexico with us because of this)

Now he has been laid off. Yesterday was his last day but he is really not complaining. He is going to have to move for work or start his own business (or BOTH!) and I am sure that he is going to do great. GE was the best job he ever had but now God is moving him onto bigger and better things.

This is him... this is what happens when you leave him alone with your camera and take to long at the store lol-

We are not spending the day with family which is really weird. We are getting together with friends of ours that have a bunch of kids too. This will be fun.
God bless your Thanksgiving!

Nov. 26, 2009 - Cooking Your Turkey

The approximate guidelines are as follows for your unstuffed Thanksgiving turkey:

6 to 8 pounds: 2-1/2 to 3 hours

8 to 12 pounds: 3 to 4 hours

12 to 16 pounds: 4 to 5 hours

16 to 20 pounds: 5 to 5-1/2 hours

20 to 24 pounds: 5-1/2 to 6 hours

If you are stuffing your turkey you should add 30-45 minutes cooking time. You will also need to use your meat thermometer to test the stuffing which is considered done at 165 degrees F.

Happy Thanksgiving

Nov. 20, 2009 - Evil Looms

Let's see if the system works....

My mother is taking me to court.

She had left her landlord/roomate's house. They were lovers at one point but for many years they have had seperate bedrooms and were basically just roomates. He was around through my childhood and was like my dad.

She left and then stole his things- multiple times. And why she would stop by and take things that she then tried to give away, I don't know. Why everything was suddenly hers, I don't know that either.

I DO know that somehow I got stuck as mediator. Probably because she tried to get me to lie and say the neighbor stole part of his belongings. Or when she tried to get me to spy on him... and I wouldn't do it. That kind of got me involved to.

Long story short- I took his stuff back more than once. I never did get it all back. One of the things I took back she is really mad about. It is an old civil war letter. It was only appraised at $125 or $150 but they think it might be worth more than that.

So she is taking me to court for theft. Even though she KNEW she needed to give his stuff back. And even though she had given me permission to be in her home to get his things back. The day I took his letter back (it would of been considered his) I was using her computer. The letter was beside the computer so I took it back. How simple is that???

Now I go to court on the 3rd at 2:30. I am not being charged for everything. Just the letter. This is so pathetic. It is slowing down our trip down south. Oh wells. Let's just hope the magistrate is level headed. :)

And to make it worse, she and my brother can break into my home while I am gone on vacation and the police can't do anything because they don't have forensics. And they can break into our other house, that used to be her lover/landlord/roomates because the house deed wasn't in our name yet. It doesn't matter if WE were the ones that paid all the years of back taxes on it. Whatever.

Nov. 20, 2009 - Winding Things Down

Well, it's down to the last few days before Thanksgiving & we are trying to get in our last few things before we start up our December studies. We are  almost finished. Just a bit more reading. Shouldn't have a problem with that Monday & Tuesday of next week.

Today we went to our local baseball park & met our HS group & we played baseball with them. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it. I think there are some great prospects for future baseball players in the group. They all hit good, & some of them have a good arm on them for throwing the ball.

Tonight we are all kind of doing our own thing, playing, watching a bit of TV, washing clothes, & on the computer. That about sums us up. Until next time, Traci

Nov. 19, 2009 - Not Much Schooling

Well, we haven't been getting to much schooling this week. My sister is expecting a baby & she has been having contractions, already started dialating, & she'ss not due until DEc. 9. She has been having to go to the Dr. a lot & being put on monitors to monitor the baby so I have had her other children. My nephew is only 23 months old. Sometimes he gets to be a hand full.

I told my DC we'd get back on course when Aunt Amanda had the baby. Until then we'd just do what we could & the rest would come later. That's the beauty of homeschooling.

Better go, just wanted to update. Have to get off here to check on my nephew. Don't want to leave him unattended too long. Until next time, Traci
