Well, it's Christmas Eve. I can't believe how time has flown! We're getting dinner ready, and planning some last minute baking after tea, and the kids are wondering how they will possibly get to sleep tonight...I went to the shops today. Yes, it was a madhouse. I left the car at home and walked (Ken was home with the kids). I felt so much better walking; no fighting for a park, no fear of a crash due to unintelligent drivers... I only needed one thing so I went and got it and went and looked at the toy section of the department store while I was there and basked in the knowledge that our Christmas shopping was done and I wasn't one of those people upset cause that sale finished last week, or they've sold out of what little Suzy wanted. Aaah, it felt good. Anyway, I just felt so blessed going to the store. You see, I've been reading so much about how in America they say 'Happy Holidays' not 'Merry Christmas', and how they have a holiday tree, not a Christmas tree, and how it goes on and on... So seeing a great big sign saying: "How many sleeps until Christmas: 1" Was pretty good. As was the many 'Merry Christmas' signs hanging up in the store. No, this is not a little family owned business, but Big W, a large department store chain. They didn't even shorten the Christmas to 'Xmas'. And the shopping centre itself has a nativity scene where everyone can see the baby Jesus. Things like that I just pass without noticing every year, but this year I just felt so blessed that we didn't have to hide our celebration behind a mask of political correctness; we can be free to celebrate Jesus' birth. And you know what? If you don't want to celebrate Christmas that's fine. But one time a year people who don't normally go to church start to think that maybe they should for just one day. And our church for one will be careful to take the opportunity to share the gospel message tomorrow. Many people are refusing to celebrate Christ, instead getting caught up in commercialism and whatnot at Christmas time; but if just one person is saved this year then it's not a holiday, it's a holyday. Will you be praying for the unsaved who will go to a Christmas service? Merry Christmas everybody! Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 210 of 316 } { Next Page } |
